I like the idea, but i have one big problem with Whatsrun:
it is capturing my browsing behaviour because it sends any URL i browse in the background to the whatsrun.com server, even when i don't want to know what software the page is running (means clicking the icon), so Whatruns get's a full browsing history from me (and you even set a UUID cookie to track unique users!).
This is a huge privacy issue! Imagine Whatruns is starting to sell this data!
To replicate simply open the dev-console for the extension and click the network tab.
There are more provider like http://www.redstation.com/ but we have only experience with Hetzner & OVH, so i cannot say something about the other ones.
As i said in the blogpost, we still love AWS, its awesome, we used it for many other projects and S3 is great in combination with EC2, but in some cases it makes sense to think about it, maybe it saves you something!
As i said, we really miss the simplicity of AWS, one mouse click and you have a loadbalancer, ec.
PS: trust me, AWS EBS volume can die, and this is a pain! :)
yes, as it is said in the blogpost, the only thing missing is the full text of the page for indexing & searching in it, we don't dare to release it because of copyright issues (he, you distribute the full text of my page!).
With this data you could for example built a new alexa and find out what was the most visited page last week :)
Well, if anyone is able for example to implement a TOR client in javascript we would love to add it to the plugin, and the sourcecode of the plugins and Android app is on github, so no cheating there.
We have a lot of plans for this, but first we have to test how the searchresults are developing and of course we will adapt the ranking if we need too. Everyone is invited to help us in solving this!
Do you always need to have a goal to qualify for a "good" quantified self posting? I dont think so!
Maybe it is interesting for me to see what pages i surf, how long i read stuff, etc. Maybe i love to get statistics about myself? Maybe it will help me in the future?
So please, dont use this as the only measurement!
at archify you can connect you facebook, twitter & linkedin account, we then import all your streams into our database (elasticsearch cluster).
the same goes of course with the webpages when you have the plugin installed (works on chrome, safari, ff, ff mobile, dolphin).
the stats are not the main feature of archify, people can search online in their archify to find stuff again they have already seen, so you dont have to active bookmark anymore.
