I had a hire car with a “push button” thing last week.

Push the button nothing happens

Read the manual

Press the clutch and push, stoop nothing

Then you have to push break, clutch and push the button. But you have to push the button for several seconds.

Same with the handbrake, it’s a button, sometimes on, sometimes off. Maybe it will stay on when you’re parked, who knows.

Give me a real key and real handbrake any day, that’s far simpler and gives me far more control.

YouTube bans basic daytime adverts because of American puritanical beliefs.

I assume checks in the USA have the equivalent of sort code and account number printed on them (as well as name of the account holder) like they used to in the U.K.?

A 1 hectare receiving plant taking in 2kW/square metre won’t be burning any cities, but generate 120MWh continuous base load even with just 25% efficiency.

Dial that up tenfold and I suspect you’ll be fine - especially with the plant in the desert (nothing to burn)

1GWh/y/ha. That’s a 4,000 ha requirement for the US electrical needs, about 10 square miles.

Wireless, satelite, cable in own ducts, fibre through sewer.

There’s multiple ways to deliver ip packets to a property in the country.

A better solution could be to have ducts to run whatever owned by the council and available on a RAND basis - sane way roads are, but it’s not essential for competition.

Good. Maybe it will eventually reach the amount spent on causing brain damage to teenagers.

Why are you posting on HN then? Get out there and save the planet.

Off site backup might not save your machine if it burns in a house fire, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have it

Maybe in your language, but looking at my English dictionary it clearly says a lamp is a device for jibing light consisting of a bulb, holder and shade.

Historically a lamp would consist of the wick, oil and holder.

I used to work regular night shifts when I was in my 20s - 2300-1100.

public transport was available for those times, but occasionally I’d drive as it tended to be faster - especially on the way in.

One morning I was driving back home and it was really sunny, no AC in the car, and the traffic ground to a halt on the m25. I closed my eyes and woke when the car behind beeped me for not moving forward.

Fortunatly it was stoped traffic rather than sluggish traffic.

It was the day shifts that needed a taxi - 1130-2330 for example was too late to get the last train. Work provided a taxi at those times (and on Christmas Day / Boxing Day)

Thus making the supplier $60 over 14 years.

Sell a whizzy router with go fast blue LEDs for $150 that dies after 3 years and you make $750 in 15 years.

Advertise it with some “value add” MITM dns hijacking by default and you can even get a recurrent revenue stream on top of it. Bundle it as “Internet security” and you can charge bothe the customer and the advertiser.

That’s a terrible product to sell in today’s world
