Not the best example here, but try to open a file descriptor in VSCode. I had a scenario where I wanted to diff a file on two different servers with a user-specified diff tool, and certain ones won't even operate in a read-only manner.
If I recall correctly, I believe the computer architecture course at USC (ducks) also uses these exact CS:APP labs. I loved them, it was fun realizing partway through some of the earlier labs which type of data structure they were having you walk. Decent prep for OS, if you really dig into the malloc lab.
Yes, there's no way to win as the hiring entity, you just open yourself up to discrimination lawsuits. So it's better to do the inhuman thing and say nothing!
