For me that's where side projects come in. I'm working on Maths teaching software [1], which allows me to combine my teaching experience (figuring out what feedback to give as students work through problems and when) with my (limited) technical experience (which admittedly has been 80% gluing libraries together!).
The day job still pays the bills but finding something that interests me personally while also offering potential future rewards is what keeps me going.
An app that allows people to ask for favours from their friends and anyone within a certain radius. Could grow into a marketplace for local tasks (doing the shopping, giving advice, menial tasks etc). Any thoughts?
I'm working on codeschool.org.uk - currently a coding summer school for 16-19 year olds. We'd love to pivot into something more like flatironschool.com or makersacademy.com - longer courses for adults, getting them to junior dev level - but don't know how to start recruiting candidates. Anyone have experience in this area? rob at codeschool.org.uk
