The irony is that many I know don't have time for their children because they are hopelessly addicted to social media themselves.

Not exactly a leading indicator when the NASDAQ is -25% on the year in May.

The wealth effect of that is obviously going to take a hit when it comes to balling out with coke and strippers.

I imagine a person's view on this is highly correlated with the level of hoarder their parents are.

For me, it will only be a sad single day project as part of the grieving process. Hundreds of hours is just a totally different story.

The good thing though is that history is basically meaningless as far as predicting any of this.

The bright side to all this is there isn't much hope to get out of this besides software.

Life doesn't have a low volatility, constant upward drift towards personal nirvana. This is going to be a big bump in the road but things will get better on the other side. We eventually cleared and went way beyond the dot com bubble and we will go way beyond the past 15 years at some point in the future.

Yea I thought that was common knowledge.

I think a more philosophical text by Norvig is quite welcome.

This is better than yet another machine learning algorithm book.

The real problem comes though when you actually do research to try to find a good charity to give to.

Tax is a side show here. The issue I found is when trying to find a good charity an overwhelming amount of the money is spent on "fund raising" and exactly what this article is talking about. I quit giving to charity besides the local food bank. Literally everything else seemed like a scam. The more the name of the charity pulls on the heart strings the better chance it is a scam too.

People can do whatever they want, I will continue to be positive toxic.

When someone asks me how I am doing I am always "great". If anything it is a form of self hypnosis to boost my own mood. Of course there is a contagion when it comes to individual mood both positive and negative.

Twitter of course is not reality. I mean this in the context of the really real world.

It seems to me the only reason to not predict an economic downturn is the belief that the economy is unpredictable.

Almost a type of religious belief in the absolute stochasticity of all possible states of the economic system.

"Maybe the gods will favor us and leave a few favorable draws in the urn. Only the gods can know"
