> Twitter hasn’t reached its full potential. It’s just not intuitive enough to most people. When a new user signs up, they don’t know:
What? Twitter's selling point was how simple and intuitive it was.
> It seems like one must be a celebrity, CEO, or super fan to use Twitter at all.
That's because Twitter changed from a "user" focused to a "celebrity/journalist/CEO/etc" focused platform.
If seems like you got introduced to twitter in the past 2 or 3 years. Twitter was nothing like it is now. You are describing what twitter was 5 or 10 years ago. I don't think
twitter is going back towards a "user" oriented site. The same with youtube, instagram, etc.
I disagree completely. I got introduced to the Seven Up series on social media ( digg or reddit? ). The discussions there are far better than an article like this. But even if you think the writing is great, it doesn't excuse supporting a morally bankrupt enterprise like the times. Millions of innocent people lost their lives from wars peddled by the times and no moral human being would support such a company financially or otherwise. Just my opinion.
I was a huge fan of the Seven Up series when I was introduced to it in the mid 2000s and watched the latest 63 Up. However, with the advent of social media, his series seems like a dinosaur. The public can directly follow people on a day to day basis and there really is no place or need for his documentary. The subjects themselves can now reach the public directly if they want to.
Success in life has more to do with who you know, who your parents know and luck than anything, even hard work or intelligence.
The more you live, the more you realize that much of life is beyond your control. When you were born, where you were born, even the opportunities available are all out of your control.
Not to mention that there are only a few spots for success and even if everyone worked equally hard, most will fail while the few succeed.
