I agree with your attitude. Technology can give false confidence.

Self-rescue, and self-sufficiency are priority, not some sense that someone will come save you if things go wrong.

Goodness, who's triggered here?

I merely attempted to point out nuance, that mono-causal explanations are lazy and perhaps ignore other factors that might go into the increase of ticks. Ecosystems change for all kinds of reasons, climate change among them.

I didn't make any claims that temperature or moisture doesn't affect tick populations, but maybe there are some other factors at play. For instance, lack of predators for ruminants and rodents, also perhaps human caused, but unrelated to climate.

This thread proves one again that nuance is lost on the internet.

Chill out. This is what I replied to:

> No ticks at the altitude I reside. But with global warming it's slowly creeping up towards the towns further down.

I wasn't making any causal claims such as this ^

It still gets cold in the winter (negative 15-20 degrees F) where I am, and even though we had a relatively mild winter, ticks are about the same.

There's a tendency today to attribute everything to climate change, but it should be backed by actual data. It's a sort of attribution bias that to me just feels lazy.

There could be a lot of reasons why ticks might spread. I have lived here 10 years, and haven't noticed an increase or decrease in ticks year over year. Just my anecdata.

We have dog ticks at 8000 feet in Colorado, not sure how much altitude affects them.

Ghandi once said during a visit to the west, "I like your Christ, but I do not like your Christians". It is not irrational to question movements you might nominally agree with but that manifest in immoral or inconsistent ways.

They likely spread rocky mountain fever instead, if they are dog ticks like we have in Colorado.

You do know not all of us voted for him, not even a majority. You could argue the non-voters allowed this outcome. Should we discard the whole democracy thing because we don't like a result?

I lament that there wasn't a stronger candidate running against him, but the Democrats didn't have a primary, and even if they did, I'm an independent and do not vote in primaries ( this has changed in Colorado thankfully). A different, stronger candidate could have likely beaten Trump

That might work at concerts, but it still sort of irks me. Museums, however, have become the worst for this. People stepping in front of me holding their phone in front of my face while I'm looking at the thing just so they can get a picture and wander off without ever really looking. If you want a picture of the art, go to the gift shop

The Dutch East India Company would've definitely been known, and was huge.

Yeah, masks and intentionally antagonizing police doesn't scream peaceful protest

This is an ad hominem argument but at the scale of a whole country.

Can _any_ man get pregnant?

No not all women get pregnant, but they generally have the plumbing to do so. My wife and I have tried for years without luck, yet no doctor has ever asked if we tried getting me pregnant instead. Smh

It seems the various chip companies share registry data, doesn't have to be state run.

Coloradan with all chipped pets for decades. Not sure where you're coming from. Our friend was reunited with a cat with a chip that was lost for a 6 months. Shitting on the US is great for karma these days

You pay contractors to fix open source bugs? Tell me how that works

Right, nobody needs cabinets or doors because... AI. /s

I'm a professional woodworker. One-off tables in a garage might not be a great business, but millwork, built-ins, and cabinetry in homes is a great business. You're likely not exposed to cabinet or architectural woodwork shops that build high-end homes, or that just do renovation for that matter.

Why not just search out the independent sources and ditch the middleman?

Comfortable clothes aren't necessary. Food with flavor isn't necessary... We should all just eat ground up crickets in beige cubicles because of how many unnecessary things we could get rid of. /s
