Founded in 2010, we are a social enterprise that works with the leading nonprofits and government agencies around the world to build intentional virtual learning and convening experiences with participants from every corner of the world.
From delivery of an online series of courses on COVID-19 response for front line healthcare workers to powering the largest human rights and tech conference in the world (RightsCon), TechChange contributes to some of the most innovative and important (virtual) conversations of our era.
We are hiring for multiple positions. Our stack is full stack JavaScript with React on the front-end and NodeJS (Koa/Express) and PostgreSQL on the back-end. We have a small but mighty team that appreciates the durability of tried and true technologies, but aren't afraid to explore new approaches when necessary.
Instead of algorithmic challenges for interviews, we focus on testing skills you’ll use in your day-to-day such as database, API, and UX design. We are looking for people who want to be part of a mission-driven organization pushing the boundaries of what's possible in online convening.
> The JMAP protocol is transport agnostic and can be easily transported over a WebSocket, for example, as well as HTTP
From section 10. of the jmap.io link you referenced. I haven't used JMAP or looked into the spec in any detail, but wanted to provide that context for anyone coming here and seeing the parent comment first. Sounds like you can use WebSocket or any other transport mechanism.
This. There are many incredible organizations doing great work in the code for good space, and not solely in the non-profit or government sectors.
I’ll second the reference to Code for America. I have a colleague who did their fellowship and learned a ton while working with some great local governmental agencies. They’ve also recently launched a job board to curate high impact mission-driven jobs and jobs with local government entities: https://jobs.codeforamerica.org/.
I’d also encourage looking at B-Corps: https://www.bcorporation.net/. These are for-profit companies that include positive social impact alongside profit as determinants of success. I work at TechChange, which is a B-Corp. If education and capacity development are your passions, we at TechChange are building a SaaS learning platform that empowers organizations around the world to make their training more effective. We are working hard to push the limits of traditional online learning and are looking for talented folks to help us achieve this goal: https://www.techchange.org/careers/.
