As an owner of an HTC Vive and a Quest 2, I find the terrible specs of the Quest to be the biggest reason why it collects dust. The resolution is horrible, the cameras are horrible, and the apps it can run are crap.
Exploring raytraced worlds on my 3090Ti in a high resolution Vive or Valve Index delivers a level of immersive experience that’s impossible to achieve on Quests hardware.
The Quest 3 is still a bit of a potato but one day, quality and convenience will converge into a sweet spot that clicks for more people in a way that only enthusiasts get to experience nowadays. A portable Index would likely have the impact people tend to expect when they imagine futuristic VR.

> The device, starting at $499, is more expensive than its predecessor by $200
Wow, that’s quite a steep increase.

I would be interested if I could buy apps and games outside the Quest store.
My smartphone and laptop are just, more convenient for almost everything?
