I know the author explicitly stated they weren’t going to share any additional details outside of this piece, but I’m curious as to how their child was injured. Like most parents, I fear for the safety of my child and want to protect them from the world. Hearing about a child injured so severely is terrifying and devastating. I have this irrational belief that if I could somehow understand and categorize all possible dangers then I might have a hope of keeping my daughter safe.

This was true for me until the latest iOS release. The new autocorrect is markedly better. It used to be that at least 30% of words (not even sentences!) were misspelled. Now it's pretty rare. I think the auto-correct on the iPhone is even better than how I type on a laptop keyboard. Pretty crazy!

The anecdote about writing the compiler in C is very interesting. LLVM is obviously very popular these days, so it’s refreshing to see a counter example. I also love that the compiler was decidedly mediocre. It just goes to show that often the user ((or developer) experience is typically more important than the technical merits of a product.
