I'm glad I don't matter to you as long as I haven't yet killed myself. I'll try to keep that in mind while I'm dying inside and dealing with severe depression.

And Tesla needs to be held accountable for a security system than be easily defeated and puts innocent bystanders in danger.

I largely despised the commandline until I discovered z. Then I realized there are ways to make the commandline actually usable and it became an incredible, useful and user-friendly tool for me.

As a member of the general public, I absolutely believe it's on Tesla to ensure that their cars can't be tricked into driving completely without driver supervision.

I don't understand why you or others think it's fine just because somebody found a trivial way to defeat their checks. This is a severe public safety issue, since it's not just putting the occupants at risk.

Might have been different hours ago, but now I see plenty of comments saying "but it's necessary".

I don't understand how that passed.

> (e) processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller;

What's the point of GDPR if you can side-step it in this way?

I'd see it as feeding a moment of sexual arousal/tension. I'd suggest that most instances of solitary porn consumption inside a relationship are due to unfulfilled sexual drive (due to temporary unavailability of their partner, or uneven levels of libido).

You'll also find women with a higher libido than their partner who'll masturbate and watch porn.

Obviously, it's easy to be aroused by other women (or men). Sexual desire isn't controllable in that way. But that doesn't necessarily mean that men are all actually for polygamy. That would be like saying, well, she had an orgasm while being assaulted, so she obviously wanted it. That biological, physical response is not representative of our emotional or mental state or our psychological needs/preferences.

No, every guy I know, including myself, consumes porn. But it's not because I or they want polygamy. I'm not even sure how you're making that connection, since that's quite the leap.

That's interesting, thanks. Makes me wonder how widespread it is, but when spots are scarce and every bed counts, it's awful all the same.

Also ties back into the idea that governments need to act earlier than might seem necessary.

That's always been the biggest fear with Covid, so that's not unexpected. Long ICU durations, lack of sufficient ICU spots and staff, high infection rate, low case fatality rate still means it can quickly overwhelm hospitals and lead to much higher rates of death overall.

People crying "it's just a flu" were always missing the point.

Why would it be any different than it is now other than having a slightly more centralized platform? Do you use a cleaner now? Unless you're installing junk, you don't need one.

> Monogamy is, more or less, a female fantasy. All women love the fact that birds mate for life. Meanwhile males fantasise about polygamy

Maybe there is a kernel of truth to it deep in our evolutionary/reproductive drive, but every guy I know, without exception, wants a monogamous relationship.

> These changes will allow developers to bring their Win32 apps to the new Store without any changes to their existing code. In the past, developers were required to package their Win32 apps as an MSIX, and were forced to use Microsoft's own store-driven update and commerce platforms. This will no longer be necessary with the new Store.

I'm so relieved at this and hope these changes make their way to the Xbox app. Their store platform has been the worst thing I've seen in gaming in recent years. I've never had as much trouble getting games installed or updated as I have with the MS store. There's also their efforts to prevent users from modifying game files unless developers explicitly allow it, which would've prevented things like the absolutely necessary unofficial patches for Nier Automata.

Favoriting episodes, bookmarks, auto-queues, prioritizing podcasts, downloading episodes for archival purposes, playback history, list of all episodes in progress, stripping empty audio, crazy amount of configurability, and an interface that isn't terrible. I'm sure there are a bunch of other features I'm forgetting.

I've tried Spotify. It's not a podcast player. It's an audio player with none of the conveniences of a modern podcast player. If all you want to do is listen to podcasts, I'm sure it's fine, but it's not in any way sufficient for my needs. At this point, Podcast Addict is the only app out there that I can stand to use.

And it's time we all stopped being that dependent on the US, considering how unreliable and untrustworthy they are.

Huh, I've been working on something similar. One of my suggestions would be to play it as a God simulator. Let players make changes to the simulation, play with the variables and see how it affects things. Add goal states based on economic metrics that provokes players to experiment. Sort of like a puzzle-like experience.

Isn't it obvious? Tech has a clear blind spot for geopolitics. Saying anything critical of China or Russia, even if well-founded, is a great way to get downvotes and be stamped as propaganda or parroting propaganda. It's representative for how these companies and their employees view these issues.

So it's funny and depressing to see a comment here questioning why a Russian company was allowed to join a program like this after a massive hack by Russian entities, when Russian efforts in this sphere are more than well-documented.

I don't understand how it's in any way feasible. Do none of these people own laptops with sensitive business or political information? How do they think they're going to protect any of it without strong encryption? Or all the sensitive data on their phones or other mobile devices? How do you secure anything ever against espionage without strong encryption? Have these people not put any thought into this?

I'm also baffled by his position. I often think that downvotes on HN serve to reinforce conformism to an accepted set of values and ideas. Which might be okay if, say, you want to "immunize" a community against racism, sexism or fake information, but isn't great if issues (as in politics or even in tech on a social level) are a lot more nuanced and there might be plenty of room to explore ideas off the beaten path (and no, I don't mean inane stuff like "but masks don't work" or "but it's just like the flu"). It's easy to find yourself on the receiving end of endless downvotes for something that isn't offensive but clashes with the accepted HN narrative.

It makes me wish downvotes weren't a thing. I'm okay with flagging, since I mostly see comments flagged that clearly break HN's simple rules.

As somebody with ADHD, I can't consume audiobooks at all. My mind just starts to wander 10 seconds in and eventually I realize I haven't been listening for the past half-hour. It's the same with talks or lectures on YouTube, though I've found that putting them at 2x speed helps to keep my attention.

I really do need a book in text form, because it allows me full control over how quickly or in what order I consume it. I learned a long time ago that reading books linearly doesn't work for me, so reading as I do involves a thorough look at the table of contents, then a lot of skimming and jumping back and forth to find the most interesting/stimulating bits and assembling that into a coherent view of the book.
