Mainmatter head of engineering here. From what we've seen on real projects, I can confirm that asking an AI to migrate the code results at best in somewhat functional but unmaintainable code, and starting from scratch is a better approach… However, starting from scratch doesn't work if the legacy codebase is actively being worked on (eg bux fixes and new features and refactorings) or lacks test coverage and documentation.
Starting from scratch also implies one major release where suddenly it's all Rust (so very risky). In contrast, we found that it's a much smoother transition for end-users and maintainers when we approach large codebases progressively, module by module, while the C engineers continue working on the C code and learn Rust in parallel.
Of course, each migration is different but I wanted to clarify with our field experience.
Their marketing got my attention, and their rates were so much better than the competition that it outweighed the terrible brand image.
They could have gone straight to the point: "Better international transfer rates than your bank" and I'd have been very happy with it. The service is good!
Another thing that threw me off is how needlessly technologically-heavy their website was at the time: Javascript front-end app with big animations and the unavoidable browser-incompatibility bugs it created back then (you refresh the page and it redirects to the root page for instance).
Anyway, I tried it once and had slightly better rates than Xoom, enough to convince me to go through their bullshit to save some money on large transfers, but I almost kept using Xoom because of how much I didn't like Transferwise's image.
All that to say: I'm not surprised by your interview experience, it perfectly matches what I assumed from their team.
On a parking lot, not 100% is used by cars. Lots of space for driving/walking through and around.

Also, in France, we're limited in farming space. Sure, it's going to go away eventually, while we outsource farming elsewhere, but replacing fields with solar panels is not as obvious of a tradeoff as it could be elsewhere in the world.

Interesting move and really good news! I'm glad new engines are already being added, particularly Rubocop and Bundler Audit. In the end, I'm confident this will have an important and positive impact on more developers, their skills and their codebases.
I've been using Xoom to send American dollars to France every two weeks for three years now, it works great, reliably, the interface simple, polished and offers a lot of useful features, the pricing is cheap and there's no surprise fees. Highly recommended!
Wow, really impressive. I tried the first Jazz lesson, completed it, was prompted to register, happily signed up and I'm very excited about the other lessons!
While this is a cool project, I unfortunately doubt it will convince the 90% of people who don't back up their stuff.
I had an idea like that a few months ago after spending time with my family and my girlfriend's family. We need a simple page that explains in big images why:
1. chances are, you will lose your data
2. here's a one-click thing to make sure it doesn't happen
For 1, we can't use the word "data" because people won't connect emotionally with the concept. "Photos from your last summer vacation", "The video of your kid's first step" etc. would be more powerful.
For 2, I was looking for solutions that provide automatic, continuous and off-site backup that is easy to recover. Without any of these criteria, a backup strategy is effectively useless. (+ secure, affordable, etc. but these are extras).
I personally use and always recommend Backblaze for these reasons (one click install that just works and gets out of the way), but there might be other solutions.
Anyway, I'd love to see this project get somewhere, probably a GitHub page where people can contribute and provide 3-step tutorials for iCloud (so many people don't back up there iPhone when it's right there, baked in) and other platforms.
Hopefully useful feedback: when I saw that, I immediately thought "what are some nice hikes around where I live?" and even though the tagline is "Find beautiful hikes", the homepage doesn't suggest that I can find the answer here. Maybe that's not the point of hike.io, maybe there's another website that would help me better, I don't know.
Anyway, the big picture of the Narrows, which is one of the very few hikes I've done, inspired me to look for new trails around where I live. Thanks for that!
