A shining example of the benefits of a purely plant-based diet (of course I am referring to manufacturing plants, chemical plants, and packaging plants, mostly)

Bro the hospital opened in 2015. What makes you say it did not?

This is a difficult question I've been pondering between the UK/USA.

Who has more authority over their children and in which domains?

Medical providers, can they ruin kids' lives in various ways? It's easy to manipulate worried parents.

Schools, do teachers have authority over their classroom, how much? Can they override parents, for example when rescuing them from anti-LGBT?

Nobody trusts churches anymore, so that's not really a problem.

Sure, what is the standard URI format for a really long piece of tractor feed paper?

I'm sure you could dig around into my hometown's landfill for awhile. They're only 30 years sediment. I'll send you a tarp, shovel, duct tape to stick the pages back together, and my sister's old clothes to wear while you work. DM for deets.

I'm not sure that I follow: you chose options "-exc" so:

  XTRACE (-x, ksh: -x)
Print commands and their arguments as they are executed.

So if you use "zsh -ec" does it still surprise you?

-x is the most invaluable tool in my shell-debugging toolkit. It is great to see every command evaluated and run alongside the script output itself. I use it multiple times per day at work.

In college we used to print out "one-page" ASCII art on the LPs. Naturally, it could get rather risqué. But I would just stare into them, marveling at the ingenuity. Of course I'd already been into it awhile, thanks to C64 Print Shop.

Also my father produced tonnes of scratch paper in narrow strips. I found a way to weave them into a perpetually-growing "tractor-feed snake" which I placed in a padded crib and brought to grade school to show off. I would typically juggle a few bits and bobs to attract even more attention...

But in an ideal world, if every tool is careful to restrict it to one page or less, you'd literally never need a pager anymore.

Alternatively, tools could build in pagers for fewer pipeline surprises, like the all-encompassing systemd.

Even better, I could envision a framework where any tool that produces output can be automatically subject to pagination, with auto terminal detection and the whole bit. Think of libreadline but for output. You could thereby eliminate plenty of ad hoc hacks.

What's a page? I set all my terminals to 22x23. Will --help run a few quick ioctls to calculate screen size?

But yeah, agree. It's way more preferable to have surprise output on stderr than surprises mingling with stdout, and it's good to be prepared for that.

Frankly, I nearly quit piping to a pager when GUI terminal backscroll became easy and infinite.

I hate to break it to you, but the prison system has been the premiere, essential job-creation program for these United States ever since Appomattox 1865.

Are you entitled to know your neighbor's bank account balance and transaction history? Are you entitled to know the mineral composition and spectra of every planet around Vega? Are you entitled to know misinformation in its uncensored form? Are you entitled to know the specs of China's nuclear arsenal, including name rank and serial number of every soldier in charge of it?

Nope. I have Windows Yubico Authenticator v5.1.0, and with the Security Key plugged in, all screens blank.

In Chrome 114.0.5735.199 on Windows 10 Pro, there is no "security key settings pane". The closest thing available is "Privacy and Security -> Security -> Manage phones (control which phones you use as security keys.)"

However, in terms of resident credentials, I thank the GP and I stand corrected, because Yubico's own specs say that this key sports 25 slots. I wonder how many are currently in use, and which version of the CTAP protocol it is using...

> Yes, that’s resident (or “discoverable”) keys the article author is talking about.

No, I said I'm using a Yubico Security Key. This is not a Yubikey. This key has no storage. How can it possibly store resident keys? The YubiKey Manager app can't even connect to this key. It's very basic, it has no TOTP slots, it has no configuration, it only does FIDO2. How would resident keys get in there in the first place? The article cites a strict limit on the number of slots, but it has zero slots.

I will not be silent until authentication works like this: https://youtu.be/-zVgWpVXb64

Or until it works like this: https://youtu.be/rERApU26PcA

And then logging in will look exactly like this: https://youtu.be/AJ6gdRfBW6c

Microsoft Live allows me to sign in to live.com with nothing else but my Yubico Security Key. That's right, I don't even need to know my username; I just plug in the key and touch it and I'm logged in. And when I write "I" you should read "anyone who has physical possession of this key".

I think that's astonishingly bad opsec for a Big Tech cloud service. If I were a sane person, I would deregister that key as a FIDO2 device, but I guess I'll be OK for now. I shouldn't have posted this in public. This comment will self-destruct in T minus 10 minutes.

Microsoft is also the jerk who won't let me use the self-same key for logging into my Windows 10 Pro notebook, no how, no way. Windows Hello does not play nice with Yubico. My notebook has no fingerprint reader, and no infrared camera, so the Windows Hello alternatives are slim pickens.

Regarding E.T., I believe that Hollywood is beginning to show how chagrined they are for perpetuating the "guns = cool" ethos along with, and long before, video games.

How many anti-2A crusader actors have wielded enormous firepower and used it to blow away all the bad guys on the silver screen?

Its's almost as hypocritical as the politicians who all rely on good-guy guns (and significantly stronger military armor & firepower) to keep them all safe.

The cab company I use has a touchscreen and POS for use by passengers, as is customary.

Cab drivers often try to reach around back and manipulate the POS for me, which I detest. They are not supposed to be touching that, especially when I am deciding their tip for them.

Anyway, the touchscreen, upon flag drop, immediately invites you to tap it thrice if you are vision-impaired, to activate an accessible voice interface. I did this once, and it apparently disabled the POS and we could't figure out how to pay my fare. Never again!

Well, I'm glad it costs less now - how much would I spend to pick up a used model?

Let's say like the FAA now, if an auto has a distracting touchscreen interface, a navigator in the passenger seat is mandatory, and must be well-trained on the user interface. That legislation should go over like a lead balloon!
