I did study for my undergraduate degree( design & business) full time whilst also working full time. Graduated when I was almost 30. It took me 10 years until I wanted to study anything again.

Now I'm studying part time for my masters degree( cybersec) whilst also working full time, only this time the job is very mentally draining.

Over the last couple of years I went to a few events, such as ballet, classical music concert, theatre, etc. People have no manners at all when it comes to phones. They lift them all the way up, screens on full brightness and then just record for ages. Then multiply it by hundreds and it's just awful. If It was my choice, I'd ban all phones from all events

I've been using LinkedIn for years. I'm one of those cynics who loath all those "inspirational" and "leadership" posts, but there's more than that. I've met some people who tremendously boosted my career. I've met people who later became friends and our kids play together. I did meet a lot of incredible people in various jobs who I wouldn't have met otherwise(e.g. CEOs of very large companies- I'm just not in those circles to meet people in such positions). I'm often involved in interesting and challenging discussions on various technical and other topics.

The main point is that everyone can use it in a way they want to.It's perfectly fine to become some influencer if that's what one wants. It's equally fine to have 45 connections with people who are really good in what they do and perhaps exchange 5 messages a year. It's massive platform, so it's inevitable that there will be lots of crap out there,as in any other large forum without very strong moderation.

I do the same. The last hiring I did, I sent them a homework assignment that shouldn't take more than an hour. Then, we started talking about it. I asked to explain what and why was done. The started expanding into the sides areas of the solution. Then zoomed out and we discussed what would be the implications of doing x,y,z in a wider context of the system. The natural flow of the conversation does a couple of things: their social skills and how they approach unknown situations. I've hear plenty of 'I don't know' which was absolutely fine and much better than some fake confidence.

Samsung is one crap of a company. Phones are full of bloatware- my wife had a couple and I would never buy one. We also have a Samsung TV,which is kind of decent on its own,but I had to enable special menu on it, so I could disable 'samsung only Bluetooth devices' on it, as it was essentially telling me I need Samsung headphones to connect to it.

>Anecdotally, I know some women in the Bay, working in areas like recruiting and marketing, who are dating VCs and CEOs exclusively and consider dating "plain engineers" to be beneath them.

No matter ones income, it's better not to go anywhere with that kind of women. Also life tends to adjust this pretty quickly: they can be that picky until their early 30's, maybe even late 20's. After that available options narrow down substantially.

I very much doubt it will work..for the devs..Developers are a special category of people, who like to earn a lot at their day job,yet tirelessly praise open source and try their best not to pay for anything. The best example of this is vue.js,which is extremely popular and used by thousands of people. The creator and main contributor is accepting Patreon, corporate sponsorship and etc.Go on his Patreon account and see how much he's pulling in.If that's the money for one of the most popular projects in JS ecosystem, the rest of the guys will be making $100/month..
