We take for granted a lot of things, doesn't mean they meaningfully contribute to our lives, why is face tagging or thumbs up so special? I believe we already had upvotes and reactions on other platforms like early forums and chat platforms. Even if it was the first one to popularize it, it didn't really come about in a vacuum, the Web 2.0 at that time was all about user engagement and interactions.

I remember the 2000s web, it was primitive. It's not hard to combine some html and css, it is hard to support more complex dynamic actions and components, all with consistent theming and behaviors and have them composable and reusable.

It seems like you are throwing away the baby with the bathwater. I don't think providing 90% of the structure you need is a failed abstraction. And it just doesn't follow that it is pushing you towards sub-optimal structures, not sure where this conclusion comes from. All ORMs I've seen have ways to describe relations between models, even polymorphic types, aggregates, eager loading (to avoid N+1) etc.

But SQL is low level, eg. you can't dynamically pass in filters and construct statements without knowing what the query will be ahead of time. ORMs have query builders that allow you do dynamically construct SQL statement based on parameters, they allow avoiding N+1 queries by doing joins in memory and much more. It's just not possible with vanilla SQL unless you concatenate strings or have multiple versions of the same query for every situation. A good ORM is an abstraction layer above that gives you more powerful tools, it's like comparing high level OOP code vs machine code.

> building your own UI library

It's one more thing to maintain, and it's also difficult to push back on things. If you use off the shelf components it's much easier to say to designers and managers that a UX pattern is not available or not valid. You can point to the mature well known community owned UI library you use and make it authoritative. It's harder to do it if you build your own, suddenly each designer and developer is throwing things in there, adding features etc. It's also difficult to agree on the structure, so the components are well thought out, flexible, but also not so flexible to lose semantics. It's not an easy job, do you use slots, composition, rendering callbacks, there are too many decisions and you spend time building the UI library instead of actually shipping features.

This actually happened to me, without getting into the specifics, a family member with mental issues took all the childhood photo albums and burned them.

Might be just a certain demographic then, there was a viral tiktok with athletes wearing dead apple watches.

Wasn't there a trend where kids were just wearing dead apple watches as accessories? It's just a status symbol, like gold bracelets.

Something like sync engines? I think there are a bunch nowadays.

Raylib also has Raygui

https://github.com/raysan5/raygui

But I found it pretty straightforward (and satisfying) to just build my own gui functions/widgets with raylib (inspired by raygui).

So far in Croatia any kind of stimulus from the government just makes the market compensate. For example, an increase in public spending made the prices of goods and services more expensive and providing subsidies for first time home buyers caused prices of real estate to increase by that amount.

The last one is such an obvious bug when the animation scales the canvas but does not translate the origin to compensate at the same time.

I'm glad someone else pointed it out, I would be skeptical of these claims. It will always be constrained by thermodynamics and local humidity. And it seems to only absorb the vapor at night and then release water in sunlight. Even if it produces what they claim, it's still barely enough to supplant the daily needs, and the jacket is probably not worth saving half liter of water.

They will one shot with bunch of duplicated code, somehow they will just omit basic things, like security middleware. It will all kind of work. But then you make additional passes to do review and clean up, suddenly there is a lot more work to make it half decent.

I implemented the McLeod NSDF pitch method, which normalizes the autocorrelation to get a pretty reliable estimate with fewer octave jumps. For precise tuning I used phase tracking between successive single-bin DFTs tuned to the target frequency.

For me it's hard because of tempered tuning, so each string should be slightly out of tune for everything to sound good. If I tuned by ear, I could get two open strings to match, but all the fretted notes and chords wouldn't sound good. On my ukulele I even tune one string down on purpose to make the fretted note sound better. And then there is the inharmonicity of overtones, and some strings have more noticeable overtones that influence how the pitch is perceived.

There is a new movement jokingly named "retardmaxxing", action over analysis, failing fast, quantity over quality, simplifying, etc.
