While there was certainly a great advancement in the introduction of the algebraic perspective, I believe modern mathematics are still primarily an European (or, Greek) invention.
Euclid's elements is written in the still-used Axiom-Theorem-Proof style and reveals mathematics as something beyond mere arithmetical manipulation. Is there something equivalent that predates Euclid?
