With a comparison of how hard or how long it takes to become proficient with a language, this article is pretty meaningless. From anecdotes I've heard from others about Rust and my own (limited) experience with the language, I suspect they are on to something, but this article contributes nothing that convinces me that Rust is hard to learn.

While there are cases where privacy rights should kick in (your example of private phone calls is a good one), I cannot imagine how an on-duty and in uniform officer doing something in public (where there is no reasonable expectation of privacy) should expect to not be recorded. That officer is armed and dangerous. In some circumstances, is legally allowed to use deadly force against citizens. Abuse of that power has happened to frequently to claim that the officer needs privacy to carry out their public service.

Supposing all this is true, and you leave your phone/laptop at home, what stops the the border control agent from demanding that you log in to your email and social media accounts on a device they provide before allowing entry?

Obviously we were supposed to think that Java would be the biggest abuser of this construct. However, keep in mind that Java is severely under represented on GitHub compared to languages like PhP. Compare http://adambard.com/blog/top-github-languages-for-2013-so-fa... to http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/content/paperinfo/tpci/index.... and notice the discrepancies. In other words, sampling on GitHub is severly biased.

From what I understand, many schools allow this with some required provisional courses to prove that you are competent with CS fundamentals. That said, you'll want a solid math background and you'll want to be at least decent at writing code. For this reason, people who do this typically come from math, stats, or engineering backgrounds.

I've interned a big places like Google and at little start ups, and $15/hour is way too low for an intern.

I've had bad experiences with Toshiba refusing to honor warranties before. After hours on the phone it turned out that the reason they wouldn't help me is because they had recorded my date of birth as the date of purchase and vice versa. Apparently no one there thought it strange that the laptop had been out of warranty for more than two decades... The one manager that did understand the absurdity of the situation still insisted that no one at his call center had the authority to make the obvious correction. Like the OP, I will never buy another Toshiba product, and I tell all my friends the same.
