I've spent a fair amount of time around alpha/Z lately and have never heard them say rizz or any of the other buzz slang. In fact, I usually hear these words from older people proclaiming they don't know what they mean and that the new generations are indecipherable based on some article they read.

The new stand out from the old with their new words and the old stand out from the new by saying they don't understand these (foolish) new words. People are quick to claim they do or don't understand to signal their alignment with one or the other but a lot of these words aren't even used out of this or some ironic context. At least not in real life speech.

That being said, as entertaining as rizz is, prompt and parasocial are monumentally more significant.

This is pretty funny. Anytime you throw a theoretically infinite payoff into the calculation it blows up immediately. It's like a religious argument. If this god is real than everyone must worship them and achieve ultimate paradise.

Another comparison actually is the GameStop stocks phenomenon. At least some of them expected such high returns (in some cases nearly infinite), that it would be fiscally insane to invest in anything but GME.

This article reads like an opportunistic advertisement for Weibo, using the Twitter turmoil to say "Come to Weibo and you'll get more followers and also money maybe?". As another user commented, "Sixth Tone" is a state-owned English language media outlet. It reminds me of TikTok where people would join and suddenly 'go viral' with tons of views. Real or not, that mechanism acts to hook new users.

On a side note, I've never been able to access content on Weibo at all (including those mentioned in the article). Links go to some looping Sina Visitor System.
