I know, I know some of you are aware of what's happening on Chinese Internet (what a weird and sad word) and there're people there who are advocating for Putin and cheering the invasion while ridiculing Ukrainian.
Please don't think they're all of us Chinese. I believe you (HNers) are reasonable enough to know what's happening on Twitter/FB couldn't represent all of you, same for what's happening on Chinese apps/web.
Days ago there's a HN submission [0] The new silent majority: People who don't tweet. I guess similar thing is here in China, those who are decent, gentle and nice enough, do not speak out... Heck, actually no not that hopeless, at least in my social circle and the media I keep track of, still plenty of people are sane enough to know, an invasion by no means has any ground and should be condemned undoubtedly.

I understand cjbprime's concern which is reasonable. Using it for bypassing blocking while not privacy can be the 1st step. anyway there must be somebody does the beta test :-)

Yes, this is the point. Being a 30-year-old Chinese, I've already known under a dictatorship almost everything is controlled by gov. Want to give birth to a child? need a permit (or your kid won't have ID nor social security); want to start up your own NGO? need a extremely complex license which is designed to scare you away; want to publish a book? need a license and it will be censored or even be banned; want to form a street demonstration? almost impossible.
I think for a dictator, he needs a system to restrain the free flow of people and information (a good example, North Korea), to do this the gov uses its power/money/people to reach out as far as possible into every corner of social and personal lives. It wants to know everything and wants to control everything (whether it can do is another story).
I cannot say I have any evidences to prove a sophisticated operation like this can only be done by gov, but I believe only gov or gov sponsored organizations can do this.
Awesome, I tried a Chinese TTF font and it works! For many years I've been waiting for some JS code which supports CJK fonts, none of typekit, cufon etc. worked. This is really awesome.

Those are all paid software and I bet the authors are making good lives from their software
Precisely, it's not 64 that triggers GFW, it's 6.4 I'm not joking... 64 is a number while 6.4 is a date (June 4th). I'm not aware any content that's blocked because of 64 but sometimes 6.4 does make a page get REST (temp for a couple of minutes) or permanently black listed if the page/site draws attentions from some guy behind GFW.
AFAIK it's rare that guys working for GFW are good enough or responsible enough do fine grained filtering so they brutally block everything contain 6.4 no matter what the context is. This is common in a bureaucratic org or a dictatorial nation. Because power in your hands is not audited by people. So blocking everything 6.4 is safe enough to make the boss happy, why bother working hard? Just block everything.
