Why don't we just accept the fact that there are going to be constant shootings and move on? These stories don't even phase me any more. Americans have decided they love their guns more than they love themselves and this is what you have to expect with our "gun culture." We've made our bed so let's just sleep in it and shut the f@#k up.
As someone who has suffered from Tinnitus for the last ten years, I found this article "disheartening," to say the least. I attribute my Tinnitus to either a Ted Nugent concert in Indianapolis when I was in my teens, or to a firecracker going off near me (again, a stupid teenage incident), or a couple of years mowing lawns to make extra money. In any event, if I had it to do over, I'd avoid all situations in which there could be loud noises and I wouldn't go near one of the cars described in this article, let alone stick my head in the window. Take care of your hearing because once you get Tinnitus, there's no going back. My is so bad that if someone could provide me with a permanent cure, I'd write them a check for $10,000 on the spot just to make this constant ringing go away.
Read Issacson's bio of Steve Jobs. There are a lot of good passages in it about conversations between Jobs and Jony Ive on how Apple products were designed.
I think you should get a job at McDonalds. Then when you come home at night, crack open a beer and watch TV/drink until you fall asleep. Repeat each day until you're very old.
I'm a big Apple fanboi but even I'm getting discouraged. If you watched Google I/O, they clearly are looking like the innovators at this point while we Appleistas are stuck looking at photos of some new doo-hickey part in the forthcoming iPhone 5S. Apple needs to stopping being evoluationary and get back to being revolutionary. And a 15" MacBook Air would be nice too.
FWIW, I like name.com. I've been with them for around five years and have always had good customer service experiences. If I need help or have a question, it's very easy to get a human being on the line. In fact, one time, the rep spent fifteen minutes or so explaining the whole domain name expiration process. Yea, I'm not happy they were hacked but I think they're trying to do right by their customers.
Already I'm turned off. Why? There doesn't seem to be a login page that I can use with my password manager app. I'm so tired of these JavaScript login popups.
Finally, something that I'm an expert in. I've had Tinnitus in one of my ears for about 12 years. When it started out, it was at a very high frequency but as time has passed the frequency has gotten lower and the sound louder which leads me to believe that it's getting worse. The only way I've found to cope with Tinnitus is to try not to think about it. At night, I've found that it helps to have a sound machine or fan running to help mask the sound. As for Melatonin, I've taken it off and on for about a decade and have never found that it's reduced my Tinnitus. I'm hoping that medical researchers will begin working harder to find some way to alleviate or even cure the condition since so many veterans are coming home with Tinnitus. There are a few so-call treatments such as Tinnitus Retraining Therapy and Neuromonics but I'm skeptical about their effectiveness since they don't seem to have any scientific studies to back back them up. There is a new device at TinnitusHearing.com that claims to mask the sound. To me, this at least seems plausible since all sounds are just sound waves. I would think we could create a device that is tuned to have a frequency that's inverse to your Tinnitus's frequency that would help mask it. I could see this being very helpful at night when you're trying to sleep. Hope this helps, and good luck!
This sharing feature isn't of interest to me. IMO, a tablet is a very personal device which I don't want to share. My wife and I tried sharing one tablet and it just didn't work because we both always wanted to be using it. Now she has her iPad and I have mine.
Oh, c'mon. JavaScript is a shit language that's been foisted on us. I don't know anyone that truly likes it. Rather they say they like it because it's the only game in town. But syntactically, it's ugly as hell.
