According to Wikipedia [0] the headquarters of IERS (International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service) is in Frankfurt, Germany (contact information on their website [1] has an address in Frankfurt too). The web server hosting the linked file also contains German text in its error page:

There's also Homerow [0] that adds Vimium-like features OS-wide on macOS. It does have some rough edges but overall I've been very happy with it. It usually works well even on apps that don't have proper keyboard navigation implemented and also handles situations with many clickable elements very well (e.g. IntelliJ).

There's also a level above that, where you're aware of what is aware. I find this mental state to be even more calming/grounding than being aware of breathing but I'm not always able to shift myself into it. Being aware of breathing feels much easier/natural to me whenever I'm able to remind myself of it, which already provides quite a noticeable effect on how I'm feeling and reacting to whatever is happening in that moment.

Additionally, there's a practice called "walking meditation" [0] that can also be useful to practice this area of skills.

While this is true, but to my understanding this applies to women as well. Even one of these things has lots of benefits, but both are even better.

Magnesium Taurate is the form of magnesium I settled on. I take 1500mg of it (300mg elemental Mg) every evening before sleep, but I feel that even half of this dose has a noticeable effect on my sleep.

Magnesium Glycinate was destroying my sleep even when I took it in the afternoon. I'd wake up after 4-5h of sleep and would feel completely alert as if it was midday and then tiredness would slowly ascend on me over the next few hours but I'd still be unable to fall asleep.

> If simpler packaging lowers costs and sales stay the same

In reality packaging is a very big part of marketing. People are drawn by vivid and bright colors, which is especially relevant in the modern world where unfortunately so many of us are living in a permanent hyper-stimulated state. It's hard to ignore well-designed packaging with tastefully chosen colors even if you're someone who is mindful about their eating/consumption choices and you know that what's inside that packaging is totally different from what you see from the outside.

I wonder whether the mere-exposure effect [0] could also be at play here.

For me, the first reaction to the Ferrari Luce was utter shock, but after looking at it again several hours later I'm starting to see some of its exterior elements differently (although my brain finds it hard to call the car "beautiful" in the same way as some of the other recent Ferrari models).

It looks like a decision was made to depart from the "modern"-looking Ferraris, but the direction of that departure seems to be very different from what the competitors are doing and what the general public is looking for visually in such a car (but it's worth keeping in mind that members of the general public aren't really customers of this car).

When I installed very high quality (CRI 98, R9 94, virtually flicker free) light bulbs to one of my apartment rooms I had headaches and felt occasional confusion for about a week while being in that room, so I had to slowly increase the amount of time the light bulbs were turned on for. To my understanding my brain was very used to the way objects and lighting looked in that particular room so it needed to rewire some knowledge given that I've spent many thousands of hours in that room with previous light bulbs.

I'm curious if a younger me would have adapted much faster.

I've played other instruments (not very professionally) for 10y when I was much younger but was often surrounded by sounds of violins and these don't sound realistic at all.

My main instrument was the saxophone and whenever I hear AI/artificial saxophone somewhere I can notice it right away, but I'm very curious if I've ever been a victim of the toupee fallacy.

I wonder whether there's a good test/game where you have to guess whether a given sound of a musical instrument is real or not.

It's also worth keeping in mind that Anthropic's compute needs are nothing like those of a company like Shopify or Adobe, so revenue might not paint accurately enough the picture of what they're dealing with right now.

I'm curious whether Apple has addressed the tinnitus issue of its ANC technology (or some part of it).

I couldn't use neither AirPods Max nor AirPods Pro (1st generation) because they were making my tinnitus noticeably worse.

I have no such issues whatsoever with my Sony WH-1000XM4 and a few other ANC headphones I've used.

In addition to uBlock Origin I'm also using AdGuard as my home WiFi DNS server and I'm seeing zero ads and no cookie notices in the linked article. For cookies I'm using uBlock Origin's Filter lists which are available in the extension settings.

I'm pretty sure for me "mining.fyi" wouldn't have created any associations with landmines (although "mines.fyi" does seem to match the contents of the website closer).

It'd be really interesting to see A/B testing results about what most people associate the word "mines" with (I wouldn't be surprised if that would be landmines in this day and age).

This isn't exactly the same but I've been using git-recent [0] (with `gr` alias) for many years. It sorts branches based on checkout order (which is what I usually need when switching between branches) and allows to easily choose a branch to checkout to.

I use the Background Sounds feature (in Accessibility settings) on iOS with a Bluetooth speaker every night while I sleep. It's quite battery-friendly and has several sound options alongside dedicated volume control with which you can set background sound volume independently of the main volume. It's also possible to add a shortcut button to this feature in the Control Center (the screen that's shown when you pull down from the top of the screen).

This makes occasional outside/neighbour noises much less noticeable, although I do keep earplugs near my bed just in case (not great for my tinnitus, but still usually better than without them if they're needed).

Limiting animal fats (which are mostly saturated fats) has a very noticeable and measurable effect on how I'm feeling and doing overall. Primarily using olive/avocado oil and nuts/seeds as my fat sources significantly improved my energy levels, mental clarity, sleep, and stress/HRV (as measured by my Garmin watch). I've noticed this so many times that I don't think this is a placebo. I haven't checked any specific blood markers that might be affected by dietary fats though.

Saturated fats _are_ essential for humans but you should be getting enough of them from non-animal sources.

YMMV

I've been doing this for a very long time but I use rolled oats and plain water (I drain the water completely before eating). I eat soaked oats every day and always have a fresh bowl or two soaking in the fridge. They are still fine to eat even if they've been soaking for more than 24h.

I like the fact that they are more concentrated in terms of calories/nutrients per 100g than cooked oats and also provide steadier energy. I often pair them with a protein drink (pea protein + rice protein), a drizzle of avocado/olive oil, and berries. Takes just a few minutes to prepare.

> peanut butter

While peanut butter does contain some useful nutrients, there are much better choices out there in case someone would like to further improve/optimize their nutrition. Many topics in nutrition can be quite debatable but IMHO most other nuts outperform peanuts (which aren't even nuts) in many ways. Furthermore I'd say peanuts aren't that useful as a protein source in this situation given that protein powder is already being added.

I recently discovered the world of nut butters, and usually choose them over whole nuts due to easier digestibility and nutrient availability. Unless I'm eating macadamia nuts which already feel quite easy on the gut.

I've developed a habit of holding my breath for a few seconds whenever a particularly smelly/polluting car drives by me while I'm walking on the street, so when I hear/see an EV approaching I often feel relieved. I'm lucky to live in a city with comparatively clean air, but I hope a time comes when we treat car exhaust gases the same way as we treat second hand tobacco smoke because in both cases pollutants are literally being absorbed into our bodies.
