Then…don’t? You are free to not do so, while others (like myself) can choose the opposite.

>One of the things I have disliked about the Iranian conflict is that their propaganda/messaging has been, by quite a margin, more reliable than what the US/Israel have been putting out.

Kek. Tell me you live in a bubble without telling me you live in a bubble.

"Both are doing propaganda, but one side's propaganda is totally less propaganda" gave me a good laugh today, thank you

Did they stop teaching "actions speak louder than words" in schools, or something?

Nah I’m good, and we’re pretty good overall.

See how I can have a different opinion and not get arrested? Whereas if you ask someone in China if they’re communist, they’re not allowed to say “No.”

> The US government is now more authoritarian than the Chinese government

Nah we’re not playing this game.

Try asking the CCP officials in person about Uyghur internment camps, or Tiananmen Square, and see if your family isn’t all arrested.

Ask Olympian Alysa Liu how the CCP targeted her father to try to coerce her to skate for China.

The last World Cup used slave labor to build their stadium in the desert, in a country that banned beer/alcohol consumption - the latter of which was relaxed eventually due to heavy lobbying (and possibly corruption.)

Relax.

Can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.

These don't magically appear - people have to create / store / distribute those things, and/or develop the science / engineering to do so.

With so many recent leadership hires / acquire hires with Facebook Growth Team backgrounds, ya’ll are naive if you think OpenAI _isn’t_ using this business data for their own means…and/or intends to lean more heavily into this direction

Ex: if you’re a Statsig user, OpenAI now knows every feature you are releasing, content you produce, telemetry, etc.

“… FTC when it challenged Microsoft's proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard, a convoluted process that didn't formally end until May of 2025—almost two years after the deal closed.”

This process needs to be faster for these types of challenges to be more successful - both in the market and in consumer opinion. Markets move too fast, and the answer can’t be “FTC needs more of my money to hire more people.”

> Deterrence Theory is back-justification to make yourself feel good

Retribution is a valid component of justice.[1]

Actions have consequences.

Billions of dollars of fraud that took years and hundreds of thousands of dollars in lawyer fees to prove should have a sentence that is a strong deterrent to future crime probabilities.

> Only 1 14" screen and a different timezone

Of all the optimizations I've done, moving to one screen/monitor ~10 years ago has been the biggest positive impact on my work, anxiety, and overall focus.

When I was younger, I was way too naive in the memetic desire when seeing other more senior folks with multiple screens, or even seeing "hacker" representations in the media with many screens with different orientations (silly, I know...everyone is dumb when they're young.) When you're 22 and insecure about whether or not you're actually "good" or belong, then you try to mimic the "best."

I think the Facebook site will be _very_ different in the next few years than what we're traditionally used to.

The strategy that Facebook has been pivoting towards is in favor of smaller community building, rather than the "mass market square" approach, which is why:

1) Groups have been more prominent and getting quite a bit of promotion

2) Messenger has gotten quite a bit of UX improvements

3) New features like "Rooms," which favor small / intimate video conversations

4) Investments in hardware experiences like Portal, which have been heavily marketed towards family communication thus far (successfully it seems, looking at their last revenue #'s.)

5) Facebook Workplace, which was a smart B2B play anyway, but also aligns with their "micro-community" approach

Zuck messaged this new pivot IIRC around the last US presidential election, but it may have started before that. Therefore I would expect to see more of these types of experiences:

"Facebook Campus" - "Facebook Workplace" - "Facebook [TBD]"

Am I in the minority of folks that enjoy Twitter's algorithmic sorting?

In the classic timeline view, I always felt the urge to check my feed all the time, in case i missed part of the conversation or the like (a la "FOMO.")

Yeah it's on-brand with Apple's approach for privacy and the like. Plus, the end-game to me seems like tighter integration with Siri and the AI ecosystem they're building.

This might be a dumb question, but can someone elaborate on how you can get such good graphics like they were showing in the Skyrim and Zelda images on such a small cartridge (i.e. not a disc?)
