The only issue you have left with BAT is user education, got it.

So thankfully the tech is solid. Now just UX polishing and onboarding.

Personally, I think you're just being obtuse and looking for a problem.

-- edit --

@dang, go fuck yourself, seriously.

Until this edit I haven't said anything offensive. I've simply been a contrarian for many topics: technical, social, political, agricultural, philosophical. It seems you don't want a Socrates? Too bad.

I can't help you allow these topics and other commenters post their opinions and I have opposing opinions. I'm always as respectful as the person I'm responding to is.

I also don't bring the topics up in the first place, yet you target my response for bring a flamewar? Why not the post I was responding to with the opposing opinion?

How is "got it" more offensive than "Case in point." How is pointing out GP's actions offensive? Care to point out exactly what you found so offensive?

Again, go fuck yourself. You know what you're doing.

Censorship isn't cool. Your Marxist, CCP dick-sucking side won't win.

Go let China bend you and YCombinator over some more.

That's offensive, true but offensive, until now I haven't posted anything offensive.

Great moderating job dumbfuck.

Bing and thus DDG's index really isn't that good.

Is Microsoft an underdog now? Why do you consider them any better than Google, especially after the "tank man" fiasco?

I don't see why it's a bad thing to make your own thing or to only promote your own company.

Brave isn't reinventing the wheel either, they purchased & revived Tailcats from Cliqz (https://0x65.dev/)

The bang operators are a small feature that are easy to implement, nothing special. Taking inspiration and features from competitors is nothing new.

Even in this thread there was a user asking for them, saying they'd switch over if Brave implements them (they already have them obviously)

I don't even think DDG came up with them first...

DDG just uses Bing results. This solution is completely independent.

You may ask why that's needed, just recently DDG was censoring the "tank man" photo on the anniversary of Tiananmen Square because Bing was censoring it.

This new indexer is very much welcome and I hope it stays free of censorship from the CCP, marxists, and others.

Trying to spin a strict definition of propaganda to include all propagation of information is disingenuous, regardless of where the original word came from.

And even then you're wrong, you have to go back much earlier to find the shift in definition of the term. The negative connotation that led to our modern definition originated in the French Revolution, not the Cold War.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propaganda#cite_ref-13

> Academic Barbara Diggs-Brown conceives that the negative connotations of the term “propaganda” are associated with the earlier social and political transformations that occurred during the French Revolutionary period movement of 1789 to 1799 between the start and the middle portion of the 19th century, in a time where the word started to be used in a nonclerical and political context.

Before the French Revolution the term was used by the Catholic church and was considered "an ancient and honorable term".

https://www.historians.org/about-aha-and-membership/aha-hist...

WWI & II made the modern definition we know today popular, but both the American and French revolution guided it there.

You know exactly what you're doing. It wasn't a big deal then, and it shouldn't be a big deal now. It's cancel culture and you're participating in it.

This is an amazing release and I'm glad Brave revived the technical marvel that was Cliqz, you can see that on display in their blog: https://www.0x65.dev/

But no, you decided to bring up bullshit drama. You're not generally curious, and even if you were, it's not really on topic. It's negative and non-constructive.

You fool no one when you hide behind your "I was just asking a question" defense. You knew ahead of time what your question would provoke.

Yes lets all grab pitchforks and chase him out of town because of his religious beliefs.

So sick of leftists and your constant attacks in the name of diversity.

Go find a hobby, you're not trying to further any cause or help anyone, you're just looking to cause drama and attack people.

It was the majority opinion to oppose same-sex marriage. Are we going to cancel everyone who once or still supports it? Remember we are still very much a Christian country. Obama in 2008 ran against same-sex marriage and cited his Christian beliefs as the reason.

We'd have to cancel many people's careers to pass your purity test of a clean history of accepted beliefs.

In the woke world, similar to North Korea, if you commit a thought crime, you will be considered dirty blood, and it will be attributed to your family and friends as well.

Pretty overblown, been WFH in Texas for 8 years now, the big freeze was the only time we had a power outage, and the only time in my life in Texas we had ice for more than 3 days for that matter.

Is it much better WFH in California during fire season? Seems worse with controlled shutdowns vs friendly letters to conserve energy.

edit: actually a squirrel blew itself and a transformer up on our street one time, that took down power for an hour or so.

edit2: to the poster below, it's possible Oncor in that area is mismanaged like most of ATX, but your experience does not align with my experience.

Our homes are usually very well insulated to keep our cool air in, we also don't usually have multi-stories, just a long ranch home that's easier to cool.

What you saw mentioned during the freeze was the conflating of pipe insulation with wall insulation.

We usually don't insulate our pipes because we don't have freezes, this led to bursting of pipes, that was the main damage during the freeze.

There's flex piping that doesn't need insulation, but squirrels and such can chew through them and it's just expensive to re-pipe your home.

I'm sure everyone that had their pipes freeze most likely has flex piping now, at least partially.

People are paying for the resource, they should be able to use the resource. If there's not enough resource then the supplier should not sell the resource. No need to shame people for having a preference and using something they paid for.

The hospital and nursing home bit is nice fear mongering but unless you have an instance where that has happened it's not relevant. If we neared too close to capacity due to over demand the electric companies would due controlled brown outs for residential areas. There's also backup generators at hospitals for natural disasters incase a brown out is not possible, and those would not have been prevented by rationing.

You don't see how acceleration is a relevant metric for a car?

Yes, there are other metrics that are important for electric cars such as range and safety, and Tesla leads those metrics as well.

Your bias is glaring in your comment, they set a record for world's fastest production car, your response, "meh that record is irrelevant".

Pretty impressive that Tesla not only broke the record, but broke the will to keep records. The power of salt is crazy.

Fully autonomous is another topic that noone has provided, being mad that you don't have it yet is just about as useful as being mad cars can't hover yet. It benefits no one and is not relevant.

I for one am glad that Tesla put a fire under these other car makers ass. They've been coasting for so long, gouging for expensive upgrades without actually improving anything. They made electric cars shitty on purpose to keep ICE around. Now Tesla is making electric competitive in both looks and speed and your response is meh. I'm glad to see Ford and others taking electric seriously, but it's only because Elon is making Tesla so damn enticing.

I may be a bit biased as well, but I prefer Tesla and its goals and track record vs the automobile giants very sketchy record.

Also I remember the HN discussion from that tire emissions study, consensus was the numbers were fishy:

Not a great analogy. Table saws try to prevent you from cutting your finger with flesh-detection saw stops.

Wouldn't hurt emacs to change the default keymap, just like it didn't hurt table saw manufacturers like SawStop or Bosch to include safety mechanisms, it helps.

His categories are false. You think all the farmers that don't have an education are the same ones that choose the brand based on status?

No, education is generational. Most younger farmers have gone to a good ag science school like A&M. Most older farmers don't have an education but have tons of experience and use techniques passed down that are essentially the same as what is taught in schools.

Whether you brand whore or not is not based on your education status, which is what OP suggested.

An anecdote is not a simplified model. They were stereotypes.

He shoved "uneducated farmers" into the same group of people that idolized John Deere for the brand alone, but did not offer any connection between the two.

Typical HN elitism. My anecdotes do differ, and it's mostly generational. Either you're a younger farmer that has gone to A&M and you're heavy into Ag Science or you're more old school and you use techniques passed down. Or you're a big time operator and none of this applies.

Nothing to do with what OP said.

Try sitting in a Kubota for 12 hours vs a JD. Your ass will be able to tell a difference.

At this point it's better to buy a Kubota to avoid the lock-in, but JD is still far superior when it comes to the attention to detail.

> 'Likely barely passed high school due to a complete lack of effort, because they were going to be farmers and school, "couldn't teach them nothin."

> The problem with these individuals as it relates to business is that they do not understand business or accounting and probably only have a rudimentary understanding of ag science.

> their only basic ag science understanding leaves them unable to adapt as well as the pros to droughts, infestations, and other adverse conditions."

So please tell me, how did you come to realize these faults in these people you met. Did they explain to you that their accounting was bad, did you see their books, did you test their soil, did you see them struggle with an infestation, or are you simply guessing and hurling insults?

Since you prefixed your statement with "probably" I'm going to guess that you're using the #2 category to shit on a group of people while the #1 category is used to argue your point that smart farmers support your conclusion that john deere = bad.

This situation has nothing to do with "uneducated farmers" and everything to do with JD being the top tier brand but also shafting its customers by not allowing them to repair their product.

Kubota doesn't come close to JD, especially in larger tractors and integrations.

The tone of your comment changed dramatically in this reply. You didn't have to say hick, you implied it with your uneducated rant. You simply don't understand why they want a John Deere, and it's not because they are uneducated.

Also, maybe never try to shove people into categories, especially only 3 categories. Especially one category being "uneducated". You reached all that from a topic about repairing tractors and their choice of brand. Think about that.

Your "anecdote" doesn't match my experience and it lines up with an outsider perspective with a dash of elitism. You said you don't know anything about AG science, so how could you judge others knowledge of it?
throwaway292893
·5 лет назад·discuss
Wow. What an incredibly offensive comment. I love how HN understands the right to repair when it comes to their gadgets, but when it comes to tractors it's probably because the farmers are uneducated hicks. Please tell me more how they don't understand AG science enough, but you have such a strong grasp on it.

JD tractors were and are reliable and top tier in quality, that's why they are popular and that's why people stick to the brand. I've built Kioti tractors when I was teenager. They'd do the job if you had to use it, but it's no JD in terms of quality.

Farmers just want the quality they've always had with JD but the ability to fix simple stuff like they used to without it costing them an arm and a leg.

The stereotypes you listed off don't sound like anyone I've ever experienced. They sound like caricatures you painted in your head with your lack of understanding.

They're not limiting any student from talking about it, just it from being taught, because it's indoctrinating Marxist bullshit. No different than them trying to teach Creationism.
