No it is not still within the laws of cricket since the late 1930s.

You might notice the law changes section in that article, that amongst other things you can't have loads of fielders behind square on leg side now.

I would also suggest it is not considered unsportsmanlike to bowl short and aim for the head any more, but rather something people look foster's forward to seeing.

Has it been going a while, possibly under another name?

I tried to log in and was told my email address had already used the service, and sure enough, a password reset had me logged in. I have no recollection of using it, so it may have been some time ago.

I like it. It doesn't quite scratch my itch, but it looks a useful tool.

Somewhat interestingly, under the hood calibre seems to be a bunch of little tools, strung together by the UI:

Here's what's under calibre/bin

  calibre
  calibre-complete
  calibre-customize
  calibredb
  calibre-debug
  calibre-parallel
  calibre_postinstall
  calibre-server
  calibre-smtp
  cjpeg
  ebook-convert
  ebook-device
  ebook-edit
  ebook-meta
  ebook-polish
  ebook-viewer
  fetch-ebook-metadata
  jpegtran
  JxrDecApp
  lrf2lrs
  lrfviewer
  lrs2lrf
  markdown-calibre
  optipng
  pdfinfo
  pdftohtml
  pdftoppm
  web2disk
You can use many (possibly all) of these independently of the UI.

Check out Calibre-Web[1], It runs on top of a calibre database and some other calibre tooling, you can upload and download books from it, edit meta-data, read through the browser. Any books I grab I upload to it (can do via phone easily enough) and then I point my Kobo to it to grab books. I run it on a headless server, and never interact with Calibre UI.
