Well, since they have no need to build actual, practical applications with this framework, they need to find ways to spread that 11 million dollars of funding around.
WebRTC will probably make many hosted video-chat systems obsolete. Why would would I need to pay TokBox's fees when I could just whip up my own WebRTC video server and host it from my own website or directly off my cable modem?

Every YC job ad is basically the same as every other. It's a BS con-job, just "come work for us, and you'll get rich" scheme that simply isn't true.
These VC funded companies will promise you the world, work you to the bone, and then dilute your equity to nearly 0 percent, and you will be left with nothing with the pride of being used to make other people rich. Avoid every job ad that sounds remotely like dclapp describes.

Build a HackerNews proxy. The CSS and HTML table structure of HN makes it completely unreadable on my iPad. And on the iPad there's no way to install a GreaseMonkey script to fix it. I don't want a dedicated app to read a website. In fact I think wrapping a website in an app makes about as much sense as wrapping a text file in a PDF and posting it on a website.
What I want is to browse HN in mobile-friendly way on whatever device/browser I use. Everybody needs to stop wrapping websites in apps, it's just downright ridiculous to be doing that in 21st century and in the age of powerful HTML5 web browsers.
The primary difference is Apple does not have a monopoly in either the smartphone or tablet markets. They only sell something like 9% of smartphones on the market.
The way out is to convince everyone who owns an iOS device to jailbreak it. And then, the development community needs to band together and convince Google, Opera, and Mozilla to port to iOS their full web browsers, including their render and JS engines, and distribute these browsers on Cydia. This would go a long way to loosening Apple's force grip on their platform and their customers.
Meh, all the whining about this is complete bullshit. If you didn't pay for the product, and instead downloaded the free version, and used it indefinitely, expecting the developer work on it, full time, without compensation, and didn't pay him for his hard work, then you got exactly what you payed for.
You're probably in the minority. My usage of desktop software has been dropping dramatically over the years. I'm basically left with 5 or 6 apps, including a browser, a file picker, a code editor, and a command prompt. The more powerful the web/internet apps become the more the desktop gets sidelined, and any reason to Ubuntu over any other desktop becomes a pretty moot point.
Nope I'm perfectly in the right to insult these companies. They are idiots and need to be slapped in the face with the reality that the genius coders they're looking for will laugh in their face.
