The author of the tweet exaggerates a bit, writing "Guess what does not require user opt-in: Apple knowing every single transaction made on its devices and using that information to target ads".
He's clearly trying to insinuate that consists of payments on websites, Apply Pay, etc. but is simply app store and in-app purchases. Apple's "Search Ads" that the tweets refer to are literally for the app store search bar.
Hah, it's funny that you say this. I just opened GitHub to see that they've added a new "Discussions" feature to repositories, which they describe as "...space for your community to have conversations, ask questions and post answers without opening issues" and appears to be a mini-forum of sorts.
I'm a full-time SWE now, but I was still working part time at the rink pre-COVID because I still enjoyed the physical aspect of non-office work, but of course that's on hold for now. It's definitely the coolest job I've had, and I still list it on my resume because practically half the recruiters/interviewers I talk to are super interested and ask about it, especially if they're hockey fans.
I've definitely had a few rough points since I started my current job early last year. I think I focused too much on my career that it left me with little energy for anything else.
I was finally starting to figure things out and get where I wanted to be in life at the beginning of the year but then the world got flipped upside down and it's been a rollercoaster since.
I almost want to say I was happy working from home, having more time for myself and my hobbies, but I was still looking forward to going back to the office because it brought back a (small) sense of normalcy and it definitely did.
Problem now is that I'm possibly days away from putting in my 2 weeks for a new SWE job in a sector that I'm super interested in and working with much cooler tech, but I'm scared. I'm extremely comfortable in my current role and it's very stable for the time being. I have no idea what the new role will be like - stress, long hours, etc. I know it'll be WFH for at least a few months to start, which I'm not looking forward to. I'm scared to leave my comfort zone in the middle of all this, and I'm worried it'll be terrible for my mental health going into the winter.
I know this isn't exactly the thread for this.. but I don't know where else to talk about it.
I've been really interested in checking out Primsa, but I was a little concerned about putting an extra layer between the database and the app. I should give it another look.
Curious about your thoughts on TypeORM. Have you used it at scale at all? I rebuilt the API portion of an app using it a few months ago and instantly ran into issues with things like relationships and slightly more complex queries. I know it is an ORM and isn't suitable for every use case and definitely not super-complex queries, but it seemed very limited and unstable.
Honestly, I don't like any of the Node ORMs out there, especially when you compare them to more mature projects like Rails' ActiveRecord or Laravel's Eloquent.
Inaccurate would probably be a better word. The results were fairly inconsistent, and for whatever reason he decided that he wanted to bet real money before perfecting (or at least as best as possible) the predictions and he lost a lot of money haha
One of my professors was working on a PHD research project involving predicting soccer match outcomes using a neural net. At that time it was very...wrong...but I wonder if he ever made any progress towards better accuracy.
