Aside: Is titus still being developed?

GitHub repo says it was archived 2 years ago: https://github.com/Netflix/titus

A bit miffed that there was no mention of L4S though.

AWS, like every company, is really the culture+ managers.

Some managers can deflect the culture enough for you to feel "loved".

Others can't. They embody the culture. The AWS culture really is that ruthless.

How odd. I have, and continue, to use Signal without auto-update enabled.

I have been prompted, twice in three years to update though.

Perhaps the requirement depends on your country?

> Groups do not have guilt, individuals do.

When we can treat corporations as legal individuals, then groups also have guilt.

Your comment does not highlight anything which indicates that Australians blindly follow the rules.

I'm Australian, currently live in Sydney and I feel as you do, but none of your examples explain your claim.

No, I don't have time to list the ways Australians follow rules (more so that Germans), it is 1:15am, and I'm going to bed.

A low-cost way to make plastic polymer lenses which enable infra-red photography

> Wayland isn't ready, I have serious doubts it's ever going to be ready.

I don't know enough to have opinion about Wayland - could you share more details about why you do not think it is ready?

≥ you never practice reading for comprehension

This has existed for at least two years: https://www.duolingo.com/stories

Yes, it does not cover every language but the intent is to address that ( perceived ) complaint.

I disagree that an actual coursebook is more helpful.

I used Duo for 6 months prior to moving to a Germany. It gave me an incredible confidence boost to be able to at least understand what was going on around me.

After living in Berlin for 6 months I did a course and I was far ahead of others who had taken formal courses before.

It has been 2 years since I left Germany, I still do my Duo daily and have continued doing German courses.

It has helped maintain my minimal ability.

> it also likely depends on person

Indeed. My partner at the time did the same as me and Duo did not work for her at all.

> UEFI standard supports > loading from FAT.

Actually UEFI REQUIRES the bootable partition to be FAT (not not exFAT).

UEFI also requires the executables to be in the COFF format ( instead of the normal ELF one ) too.

> Eventually they had NO CHOICE > but to evolve or die.

So, really they haven't done anyone any favours then?

Why do you think so many people look upon their acts as something with good intentions?

Just better marketing spin?

> you're talking about them > investing tens of millions > minimum into the development

Do you have a source for this hyperbole??

In some cases yes, but the majority of jobs are never formally advertised.

Where do you think MD (Managing Directors), CxOs and other high level people go for jobs?

The majority of them will get their next position through who they know, not a job board.
