Stop using their user-hostile service? They need my eyeballs in order to sell me to advertisers. If they are creating features that turn users away, their bottom line may be impacted enough that they reevaluate their user-hostile business practices.
No, but they aren't compensated nearly as well due to the market prices being "set" lower than what they can command in another market. i.e. practicing medicine in the U.S. commands a higher wage than in Canada so doctors leave the Canadian system after completing their residency. Hence, the shortage of supply caused by a market distorted by socialism.
No I'm saying the supply is artificially constrained by the price of "free" so there is less incentive to go into medicine, hence shortages at the price demanded.
> What is the trade-off for not being included by default in the main extension, CPU?
gorhill's (developer of uBO) explanation from[1] below:
> uBO-Extra is needed to deal with IL stuff because the IL inline script appears at the top of the served HTML page -- before any other secondary resource-pulling tag.
uBO-Extra injects its content script declaratively, i.e. on every page, hence it will always run before IL stuff.
The root cause of why it is needed is because of a bug with web socket implementation in chrome.[2]
Additional info on why both are needed (& why for chrome but not firefox) in some reddit threads.[3][4][5]
Are you using chrome and also have either uBO-Extra or Nano Defender installed? If not it's most likely the ads are being served by Instart Logic. [1] [2]
> NYTimes is the main reason I've been on the search for some kind of feature for HN (addon? greasemonkey script? ANYTHING) to auto-hide articles based on domain or title matches. Does anyone have a solution?
You'll leave an orphaned article info table row with this approach but you can hide the article row itself with uBlock Origin procedural filters[1].
> I had a call yesterday and the Airpods were beeping that they were dying at the 20min mark, and didn't make it to 30min on the call.
> I love the form factor, and I just ordered the "new" Airpods, because I am hoping the battery life has improved - the old ones are basically a disposable item after the first year, from my experience.
The OP complained about battery life and the $200 "disposable" headphones he bought a year ago, but happily bought the next iteration, hence my comment.
> I wonder if we see it on mobile platforms someday. Not having a norootneeded adblocker on android or ios is very sad
Not sure if this is what you mean exactly, but uBlock Origin (as well as a lot of other Firefox extensions) can be installed[1] on Firefox for Android.[2]
