You should set it up so that people can send cryptocurrencies that are provably burned. Then you could pay something to no one to send nothing to someone.
Clever. Of course then they wouldn’t be making money. Anyway, what’s truly “provably” burned?
Might as well send them an individualized clip of a Lincoln or Jackson being set on fire.

A provably burn address has an improbable chance of having a known private key.
Here are well-known burn addresses for bitcoin and ethereum:
https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/111111111111111111111... https://etherscan.io/address/0x00000000000000000000000000000...
Just send crypto to these addresses and they will be forever lost.

Also this one for bitcoin. Just send some bitcoin here and you will totally lose it. Guaranteed.
Please. Please send bitcoin here. I promise you won’t get it back.

the genesis block is not spendable
I don't save many quotes, but that's going to be one of them! Thanks!
Hahaha, love it.
While this may very well be the simplest piece of software that makes money, I have a conceptual bone to pick:
If you spend money to make a point, the recipient does mean something.

Please tell me your purchase confirmation page says "thanks for nothing."
So basically Reddit Gold
I like the way the form is "in situ." Like filling in Mad Libs.
Thanks :) I actually borrowed the idea from another company who were using that approach for their contact us form and it seemed like a nice change.
I'm curious, how many purchases do you get per month?
Hopefully none.
I love this. It's simple and clever. I hope you make some money.
I'm reminded of the "I am Rich" iPhone app[0], but less offensive to the sensibilities. It's just a small art project where the performance art aspect centers around the observer giving the artist money.

Your layout is broken on iOS. The text appears above the intro header. https://i.imgur.com/CoUTRvW.png
I was a bit surprised how much metadata Apple includes for this shared picture (in some of the XHR responses). Not only your email address (the same that's on your HN profile so I assume that doesn't hurt) but also what seems to be your device's name ("i" followed by a part of your last name) as well as what looks to be a unique ID of your device and your timezone (are you GMT-6?).
Wow, you're not kidding! I've never used it before but was frustrated by how broken my other choices were and didn't realize how bad that could be. (First choice: imgur. No longer supporting upload from mobile without their app and mandatory sign in. Second choice: DropBox. Their extension is broken and it saved it as a PDF. Then it saved it as a PNG explicitly but the app was making it too hard to get the direct link to the image without using their share sheet and specifying an email address to send to.)
(I am indeed GMT -6, for at least some chunk of the year anyway.)

Please tell me you’re at least if donating the $ to charity!
This is hilarious. Paying money to passive-aggressively insult somebody, I think you may have invented a new market. Has this product generated any revenue yet?
Reminds me of this podcast title I saw yesterday on StackOverflow :
"Podcast 303: What would you pay for /dev/null as a service?" [1]

(I did not listen though)

If it was giving to charity, and not telling people they are worthless, it might be a good novelty in this world where gift giving has become a meaningless waste of money. “I’m giving you nothing, but some less fortunate kid got school books!”
As it stands it just comes across as being mean/nasty.

This is great. Much more altruistic than my project [1] that charges people for nothing in return

Try flipping it around. Instead of you spending a lot to prove someone means nothing, have them spend a lot to prove they mean something. Check out my Show HN from yesterday.
I'D RATHER GIVE YOU NOTHING THAN PAY FOR YOUR COLLEGE EDUCATION!!

Nothing as a service.
NAAS.
One wonders , if you can get 20 people to actually use this would you have the most efficient startup ever created.

Tell me your MRR please ;p.
Basically, there are three types of people
1. Who don't use the service($0)
2. Who send $5
2. Who send $1000

Why was this flagged?
Maybe because it all just leads to nothing.
Not sure, ultimately it's just a bit of a silly side project. It's a shame it would get flagged.
Ultimately nothing is the best give ever! ;)
So did anyone pick the 1000$ option?
Low effort way to make a quick buck
cool idea! How do you make money though? putting ads or getting a % of each transact?
Absolutely Brilliant!
