As it should. It was an abject failure. Public military defeat cannot be spun away.
Going to be very hard for the spin doctors to spin this failure in their cauldrons.
Everyone can see this defeat and the total underestimation of the enemy and the ones who think this was a success are the Biden super cheerleaders in the Atlantic [0].

The amount of controversy depends on how much the news media will cover something.
The things that Biden said a month ago, such as “The likelihood there’s going to be the Taliban overrunning everything and owning the whole country is highly unlikely.” and “There’s going to be no circumstance when you’re going to see people being lifted off the roof of an embassy” are statements another president would have been absolutely crucified for having said.
But, the media will mention it, cover it for a little bit, and hopefully move on to something else. I'm certain they won't try to rub salt in the wound and keep these statements in the public consciousness for very long.
