It does look cheaply made compared to the Samsung M.2 drives, but yeah not a fake.
It doesn't even register as a device - its fake. there is NO circuitry on it at all that would connect "chip" to IO - its fucking fake.

Western Digital's website shows its not fake.

What are you putting this drive in, device model would be helpful? It's more likely that your device doesn't support M2 NVMe drives and you need a M2 SATA drive. Some devices like Dell XPS 9360 can support either M2 NVMe or M2 SATA while other devices like Dell Wyse 5070 only support M2 SATA drives.
are you sure its just not faulty? even if it is a fake, you might be able to file a claim with amazon...
Looks fine to me.. This seems like somebody who bought a M2 NVMe drive for a notebook that only supports M2 SATA SSDs..

Well shoot. it may not be fake then.... wow.
I've got three of those and they all look the same. (Though I've only tested 1 - other 2 are still boxed.
As for the claim that there is no circuitry attaching the chips to the IO - multi layer PCBs are a thing...not everything runs on the surface.

Is it actually fake? It isn't clear from the comments.

I didn't know the chip shortage was that bad...
Got bad SSDs and Fake SSDs from Amazon: fake WD SSDs (has no chips - i.e. no SOLID STATE DEVICES :-)

Got several bad Crucial SSDs...

Aamzon will replace if caught early enough, but will refund the money if not caught in time.
I didnt catch the fake or bad in time as they were spares, which I then attempted to use after my SSD went bad and I went to replace it from my stock of spares and discovered the fake and the bad, 6 months after I bought them...

I was sent RAM that contained a space blanket. Didn’t catch it until I was doing my build later on. It was a few days after the return window but they ended up honoring a return.
