There is important missing context from this extremely biased article that leans heavily on the opinion of an anonymous person. It has always been illegal to serve in a foreign armed force for South Africans. I forget the name of the act, but this isn't new legislation, it is enforcing existing legislation.
Could this possibly be a distraction from other internal problems?
Considering South Africa is strutting about in the ICJ, a body with no enforcement power whatsoever, claiming Israel is committing genocide, and yet has imposed no financial or even diplomatic sanctions on Israel, yes. Yes it is.
It’s the ANC whose corruption lately has been bleeding the country dry (quite literally…clean public water is fast becoming a scarce commodity in South Africa) and is leading to significant loss of support, trying to remind the public of the good old days when they fought actual apartheid.
