Your map appears to show that Spanish is spoken in Arizona but not Utah or Idaho. Do you know how absurd that is? I am curious about the source of your data.

I think the benefit of mapping the world by languages (and color-coding it) is largely educational.
The previous version of Language World Map is used by universities and schools alike, largely I believe to outline the impacts colonization had.
I also see some people using the map for its original intended use: To visualize the benefits of learning multiple languages. :)
