The key is CLIENT SIDE. It’s still SECRET only to YOU and GOOGLE.
It’s stored in SYNC STORAGE in YOUR BROWSER.
Check the network tab, nothing is LEAKED.

Logic aside, BYO API key rarely works because of this. Even when Google goes through the effort of checking all of these for trojans. It has to go through an API and you charge for that usage. Or there's some other charge to build trust - even scammers make you pay a little at first and then refunds the money.
What are you even on about? Trojans? What? There is no charge for Gemini API

My latest creation, a BYO-API key web design copilot, powered by Google Gemini.
Activate the extension on any web-page (including localhost) then simply draw a box around any portion of the site you want instant design feedback on.
This tool is completely free during a very long Beta period, potentially free forever, whilst I refine the tool.
It works via a BYO-API key model. This means I can offer the extension as cheap as possible (free in this case) whilst utilising a completely free Gemini API LLM (15 requests per minute free).
Try it out, let me know what you think. I think its the only extension of its kind I could find. Still has some rough edges and bugs.
