The actual paper on arxiv.org (https://arxiv.org/abs/2507.13461) says that they _predict_ the ability to create gold from mercury using _simulations_.
Thank you. This is usually the first thing I look for when I see headlines. The actual research or how long it would take to manufacture at scale.

If this eventuates, then maybe bitcoin is more useful, the scarcity and distributed nature of findable gold are a key aspect of it's utility/value.
