As another Arch-i3WM combo user, do you really think you could live without your customized setup and trade in pacman for brew?

I like Apple hardware and used it extensively between 2006-2012 but I "worry" I am stuck in my current setup as long as I make my money with it.

Maybe I could switch one day when productivity is not that important any more.

The only practical use case I see is as a demo device. For example when my mom went on vacation and wants to show me photo's it is a much better experience to slide through them on an iPad than sit behind a laptop.

I can imagine this works out in most demonstration cases.

It doesn't surprise me one bit that dutch politicians neglected to do their due diligence.

Do you ever need to know how long a command takes? And if you ever need it is it really worth a full line for every command that is ran. And it shows the time that the prompt is printed right? It doesn't show the time your command is executed if I am correct.

I guess you can hit enter before every command is entered to get the correct time but that is a lot of wasted space!

Maybe I'm getting too minimalist but I don't see the benefit to productivity in these over the top prompts.

Despite what you think about what Libertarians think, the term that is relevant here is opportunity cost. Not zero sum games.

And your solution to "the problem" of other people freely choosing where and what to work on is what? You choose?

Let's agree to disagree on politics. Just let me know if you're ever about to be chosen as Supreme Chairman of the Party so I know what country to avoid.

The surge of Bitcoin is a reaction to the endless money printing of the federal banks that has been started well over 10 years ago. This has put the interest rates to 0 or even -0% all over the world causing people to pull out their savings and putting it in anything that has a chance of beating the inflation rates.

It is not libertarian economics but keynesian economics that drive people to bitcoin and other bubbles.

Libertarian economics is not "soo yesterday", accepting bad policies from bureaucrats is.

You are correct that my family members do not need hearing aids. But I am also not saying hearing aids are useless. I am just saying it is not worth going to the moon for.

Since it would've been cheaper to not go to the moon and let a private company step in to provide the need there would have been more resources to spend on improving more lives than were improved now.

It is actually very easy to predict these things, if the people in charge are not the ones paying the bills it's not going to be worth the money.

There are 5 items on that list:

- Digital Flight Controls

- Food Safety

- Space Blankets

- Quake-Proofing

- Rechargeable Hearing Aids

This list does not impress me at all and I find it hard to believe we wouldn't have come up with those 5 items + a lot more without spending billions to go to the moon.

It's cool to go the moon but just like all things government is involved with, it could've been done a lot cheaper without involving bureaucrats.

I use i3 and the Simple Terminal (ST) so no titles and no bars for me.

If anyone is curious what it looks like: https://imgur.com/Xx19sFn.png

Yes nano has a good use case since an editor is pretty much mandatory to administer a server. And since we all had to start somewhere most of us I am sure used nano at some point.

A terminal multiplexer is not mandatory at all to work on a server, so I wonder who would use a terminal multiplexer and also wants to see the basic commands at all times.

That seems like a lot of wasted space to me. The benefit of putting it into tmux is it only shows in 1 place. I don't need to see the git branch and folder of the location where I ran my previous commands, I just need to see where I am at right now.

I use tmux locally even though I run i3 as my window manager. Mostly because I configured tmux to show the current directory and git branch (if in a git directory) so I can keep my prompt a clean "$".

This looks like the nano of terminal multiplexing to me.

The tips on the bottom just clutter the screen and the use of cowsay as example code makes it look like a joke instead of a serious tool, which it very well might be.

Manjaro uses its own repositories (check /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist). I use Manjaro (i3 community edition) and it has served me well but these small annoyances tell me I should invest the time to switch to Arch before I encounter the first mayor annoyance.
