There are notable games missing from that list. Unrailed 2, for example, which is, in my opinion, one of the best games ever created. I am not even a avid gamer and I recognize several games from that list.

Cost of living has risen dramatically everywhere. Unless you live in a small town in a poor state like I do then 85K sounds pretty bad. That's barely above the poverty line at this point.

Do you really think that unrestricted internet access is equivalent to giving children one of the most addicting and deadly drugs around?

I think 13+ is an appropriate age to view explicit content. No matter how hard you try to prevent it, kids are going to be exposed to things. By the age of 13 or 14, like it or not, a lot of kids are partaking in the activities you would have them prevented from even seeing.

I've seen enough of tiktok (and youtube, and facebook) to understand that there are extreme levels of manipulation happening. I think it's just as harmful to adults as it is to teenagers. The whole over-protective "think of the children" routine is just disingenuous and frankly it's just yet another example of emotional manipulation on the part of the people promoting these laws. I'm confident that they don't give a rats ass about actually reducing harm or regulating the dark patterns that are now everywhere in modern society.

At one point there was an attempt to form a new terminal emulator extensions working group, however, last time I checked it seemed to have been abandoned a few years ago.

I've been wanting this for a long time, however, it would be really great to have some kind of standard so that multiple terminals might eventually implement the functionality. Even more awesome would be great if the api was a bit more generic so that any window could be embedded within the context of a terminal in much the same way that images are embedded with the kitty graphics protocol¹. With appropriate alpha channel support it could even enable seamless/borderless objects, potentially with non-rectangular shapes.

edit: I see the protocol² is very well documented. Better yet, it looks like a really powerful and well thought out interface. Well done! It would be really awesome if this catches on.

I played weed smoke willie for way longer than I should admit. Stopped after something like $40k.

The internet shock sites existed back when I was a teenager. I was exposed to those things. It didn't damage me any, as far as I can tell. Not to mention there were always things like faces of death which I found to be far more disturbing than any internet shock content that I ran into in the 90s.

It's not that far fetched to assume that someone could be in physical danger after ruffling the feathers of a company that has hired a union busting firm. Union Busters have a long history of employing gun violence against striking workers.

The data centers that already exist are one thing, creating a lot of new ones isn't necessary simply to continue supporting hacker news traffic.

These new data centers are entirely a speculative buildout of new capacity to support theoretical (and some existing) demand for AI compute.

This seems pretty useful. Just curious, why is it necessary to load entire files into memory (let alone twice?) - seems like not that much extra work (for claude) to stream the files to disk. Maybe I'm missing some limitation due to the underlying implementation. I agree that it's not necessarily a deal breaker for most common quick file transfers, however, it seems like unnecessarily limiting the scope of the tool if it wouldn't be too difficult to overcome.

But the noise from a data center is exempt. And if their water use exhausts the local aquifer, too bad for the locals.

From TFA:

> a Datasette-style backend to a self-contained HTML frontend is an astonishingly powerful combination.

1000% agree. And datasette is a terrific framework to build any kind of data exploration or visualization on.

This sounds like an awesome feature and a good excuse for me to dive back into playing with Datasette.

It feels more like we've jumped straight to mob rule (with tinges of oligarchy, which are not new really)

Wow that quote is the most useless bullshit bunch of words I've seen strung together recently. It says a whole lot of nothing in the most insulting way possible. Must have been written by a highly paid consultant.
