I do not think this is a terrible idea. Games such as league of legends feel dramatically different when I play with friends in real life.

One strange thing is that as my age grows my preference for multiplayer game changes from "competitive" to "coop".

I would take it if demon offers me a a deal that transfers my pattern matching IQ to the proficiency of using language as a tool (in Wittgenstein's sense)

Link to gov release: https://www.justice.gov/usao-ma/pr/former-ebay-executive-ple...

"Senior executives at eBay were frustrated with the newsletter’s tone and content, and with the tone and content of comments posted beneath the newsletter’s articles. The harassment campaign arose from communications between those executives and Baugh, who was eBay’s senior security employee."

Now what about these frustrated "senior executives". This is mafia in age of internet. Cringe.

One of my family member is living Shanghai who has not taken any vaccine yet due to contraindications. Not to mention that there are millions of elders living in China who are not suitable for taking vaccine.

I am very concerned if an authoritative gov aiming for "zero-covid" would push and mandate every citizen to be vaccinated. But I saw all these comments bashing gov on "why lockdown", "why not just take vax", "why not herd immunity" without deeping into questions - which is not much different from "Let them eat cake”.

Or by Occam's razor, I would say the goverment simply screws up (so badly) at their top-down approach at this stage.

Multiplying the saved cost by probability of a defeat (which is ineffective mentioned by writer) does not seem bad considering the grid is low-cost design.

But placing timer/accelerator in RPG as a backup plan for fusing in case the warhead is shortcircuited also seems low-cost. I must be missing something here.

I am not familiar with public debate. Before two persons start a public debate, is it a common assumption that you are going to hold your ground till the end, whatever the information provided by the opponent?

There is no flow of information and I could not see this form of acts as "communication" - it seems to be more like a kind of art/show/performance.

It goes far beyond twitter culture. Even in daily conversation there are people who only open out port and close in port. One signal is that whenever you bring up a perspective (either in support/disagreement) this person gonna continue his speech and make the conversation expereince like attending a lecture.

"Implicit learning is “nonepisodic learning of complex information in an incidental manner, without awareness of what has been learned.”

If I am terrible at online competitive games, does it reflect my poor implicit learning ability on strategy?

the second half my comment is wrong. As someone comment points out there is xor swap

To deal with overflow the size of variable a needs to be doubled. This trick, if applied correctly, uses the same amounts of memory.

Now you may wonder whether we can mathematically prove swapping two variavles requires memory of three variables in digital computer...

As someone who is not a native-English speaker, it is interesting to see a couple of familiar words in male category such as katana, yakuza, azimuth, etc. Probably due to my gaming hobbies...

And none of words in female category ring a bell to me, which is not surprising since I do not even recognize most of them in my native language.

Not a response as a solution to Op: is there any recommended open-source project that can be used to self-host a comminity server?

I would expect that as a host I just need to focus on configuring and maintaining instead of learning to build a website, for example, it sounds like hosting vpn using Wireguard.

On the other hand, I wonder if that really makes it better off than to use fb/discord, since if fb/discord is vulnerable to hack, so is my own hosted one.

Your examples are more like colleges charging more tuition on out-of-state student, or tourist attractions charge lower price to locals, which are made public information. The context under this thread is talking about dual price that is deliberately taking advantage of information asymmetry, differentiation, or even discrimination based on social class and skin color.

> Prior to 2010, my CRPG addiction was a solitary, lonely, shameful experience.

Exactly feel for this part. I do not let people know that I play games (rpg, online competitive, etc) as a hobby, except for few friends I have known since school.

It is a mental image in which playing video game is not socially acceptable for a young male in United States. But I do not think it really matters - instead of impressing other people, having a hobby is to create room for myself.

Right. It feels like Op uses wrong math but gets a good conclusion in the context of doing daily job: focus on one shit.

However, in general sense, the return of an investment is considered as random variable, so the problem is not just max value, but max value while minimizing risk, and the solution is multitask/portfolio

Just want to make sure if I correctly understand what it means by "triangle": For navigation, the developer triangularize the skyrim world, and these divided triangles are not the same size - for example, a 100-sq feet field is covered by one triangle, while a 100-sq feet point of interest is more complicated and covered by more triangles. The original design intention is that the number of triangles encodes the sense of distance, but maximizing the #triangles actually leads to interesting places.

Inacitivity of a digital content account is usually a consequence of my indifference to that content & provider, which also means that I do not care about that account anymore.

Can we consider being hacked as something like traffic accident or injury? People are trying to make systems more secure, but if we think of the small but inevitable probability of being hacked, can we build an insurance product around it? On the provider's perspective, it is not easy to verify the insuree is indeed hacked though.

I was wondering if the question is really about the gap between education and job requirement rather than the mismatch between graduate supply v.s. position demand. The gap one is certainly an important question, but it would not be surprising that most of CS graduates does not get a job relevant to their background if "the colleges supply 1000 while the open position is 100 or less".

With regard to the context of the article, the example that Uber driver gets a degree in acturial science does not tell much. Probably he is just doing worse than other graduates - even though he is qualified for an acturial job, the employer has tons of better candidates.
