> I have seen zero proposed solutions or ways of combating the rise of white supremacists because so far...
Curb immigration...require incoming immigrants adopt the culture of country they are immigrating to...if they complain about "lack of diversity/opportunity/representation of their kind of people in a country they just moved to, send them back to wherever they came from...
People conflate white supremacists with white in-group preference...in-group preference is not bad, believing you're group is better than others may be bad or it may not be, it really depends...the point is a of white people who simply want to live around other white people who share their culture are inaccurately disparaged...
There will be a civil war...but it won't be over being able to watch videos on FB...the underlying problem that caused the video is what needs to be addressed
> "...to sustain that person in government-managed housing, with government-managed food, clothing, ect."
This sounds like a nightmare and to me it wouldn't feel like I'm free at all...being so dependent on the government seems like a terrible idea...Who would want to be so reliant on the government for such basic needs?
> ...but when they don't bring help and expect you to haul their heavy ass table up flights of steps. Yeah, no.
Imagine being the friend with the F250 and a powerlifter...I get asked to help move all the time and some expect me to help move furniture because, as they sometimes jokingly say, "you like to move heavy objects in your spare time anyway"...
> I suspect that the biggest cause of disability is simply obesity. Government has a role to clean up the food supply and agricultural system, not to give handouts to millions of people affected by its dysfunction.
While I somewhat agree with your sentiment, and I'm not a big fan of the fact that these obese people are weighing down (no pun intended) our health care system, there really isn't a good solution that I can think of that doesn't limit these fat people's ability to make decisions about what they eat and how physically active they are day to day. I'd rather have a bunch of fatties making terrible health decisions and causing more stress on our healthcare system than having some Government representative telling people what they can or cannot do in the name of protecting them and keeping them healthy...
> I was talking about the opposite case: belonging to a class whose scores are artificially raised. If I can get excellent scores and get admitted by myself, but then everybody thinks that I got admitted due to my ethnic background, not due to my merits. Infuriating!
I think I follow you...that must not be fun...having everyone think you didn't deserve the spot you earned because of other undeserving "diversity applicants"
> That certainly does not seem to be the case in Europe
I was talking about the U.S. because the author of the article was talking about the U.S...I should have been more specific
> I would be extremely pissed if that criterion was applied.
It isn't a matter of "if"...that is the standard now, lower scores for certain demographics...that is why I don't put Asian on anything...as a mixed-race Filipino, I can pass as some kind of Latino which is what I now "identify" with since it helps me in nearly every case imaginable...it kind of sucks, but that is the world we now live in.
I didn't realize police prosecute unfairly and was just looking at the stats...a friend shared an article on the targeting/prosecution breakdown and it wasn't favorable for young Blacks in the U.S.
Uh...that wasn't antisemetic...when talking about Ivy league representation, Jews are disproportionately represented which is why I distinguished between "Jewish Whites" and Non-Jewish Whites...
Most of the articles I've read and people I've talked with from England have said that immigration and keeping England English was the main concern behind Brexit...have views on non-English immigrants changed?
People who want their country to stay their country (in terms of ethnicity and culture) are still worthy of discussion...it is a valid political position...you can't just say "they don't count, please provide somebody else we can discuss that fit my narrow definition of right-wing"
> If you could get into USC with a ~1000 SAT score like Huffman's daughter, would you even want to go? I wouldn't. It is shortchanging the achievement, and really missing the point of what admission to such a university represents.
Many people are happy to take advantage of these unfair "bumps" that happen to be in their favor. Simply look at elite school admission rates by race and LSAT/GMAT/SAT/ACT scores [1]...you'll notice that it is a lot easier to get in if you're Black or Latino compared to Asian or White...Maybe they feel like they don't deserve it, maybe they do, who really knows?
> ...which is not a sustainable approach to life when you get into the real world.
The real world if full of unfair advantages metered out by race/gender/alma matter/cultural background/etc...Some people are fine taking advantage of it and some aren't...In the Navy they have something informally called the "Filipino Mafia" which basically means that there is an overrepresentation of Filipinos that kind of control things and give out good deals to fellow Filipinos...as a Filipino I sure as hell took advantage of this...I got the good assignments and the poor White kid with no racial support system in the Navy got stuck swabbing the deck...that is just how it goes...There are "good old boys" clubs, there are "diversity hires", as well as many other kinds of unfair, unjust, and undeserved rewards. That is the real world, racial groups sticking together, genders sticking together, rich people sticking together, etc...
