I like GitHub and I'm not going to ditch anything, but I have to admit it's currently one of the few MS products that still holds up. Curious what it'll look like in a few years. Just in case, I've already reserved my username on Codeberg :)

Cloudflare gives me mixed feelings. The services are good and well priced. What bothers me is that they've become infrastructure nobody opted into - you don't have an account, you just pass through their network on the way to a large share of what you visit. They terminate TLS, so it's plaintext on their side.

You got me. Canceling would hurt me more than them, and that math is the whole problem.

Oh wow, the first AI-generated Linux! Will it suck monkey balls just as much as Windows 11?

I've only had one terrible interview as the candidate, but there's one I conducted myself that weighs on my conscience. It was my first job in IT, and I was still a student back then with no real experience to speak of. A young guy came in to our company who was clearly very stressed, and I kept asking him hard questions - probably not to actually assess his competence, but to prove that I was the one who knew my stuff. That was 20 years ago and I don't remember the details anymore, I only remember that he was stressed and I just treated him cruelly with those questions. It wasn't anything offensive, I just keep recalling that moment and I regret it. Today, if I were conducting any interviews, I would make a real effort to make the person feel comfortable, even if they don't know everything or are a weak candidate.

I use 2 computers without a KVM. My keyboard, mouse, and soundbar all support Bluetooth. All wired to the PC by default. When I switch to the Mac, I just flip each device to Bluetooth mode.

Anyone remember “Using TrueCrypt is not secure as it may contain unfixed security issues”? ;)

These AI images are an absolute plague these days. I’m glad more people think they’re genuinely awful. To me they’re absolutely disgusting. I think I’d honestly prefer Macromedia Flash ads over this.

You might want to mention the comedy series Microsoft used to run on MSDN. I think it was called “The .NET Show” or “VBTV”. It featured characters like the “VB Rapper” and “Head in a Box” (Ari and Chris). It was genuinely funny and they made at least a few episodes. I loved Microsoft back in those days. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find any trace of it online now. This was really long ago - around 2002, I believe.

I live in Poland. This headline is misleading. Poland didn't build a top-20 economy. Western Europe and the US built their economy in Poland, because the labor is educated and cheap.

There are almost no globally competitive Polish companies. The "growth" is branch offices of German and American corporations taking advantage of engineers who'll work for 40% of Berlin rates. Remove the foreign-owned sector and you're looking at a mid-tier economy running on EU structural funds.

It's a great place to live, genuinely. But calling this "Poland's economy" is like calling a McDonald's franchise "your restaurant"

The comments here are fascinating. A generation of men who've never been in a physical confrontation in their lives are absolutely certain that physical consequences don't work. How would you know?

A boy who bullies needs to learn that the world hits back. You can teach that with a cane at 13 or let him find out at 25 when he mouths off to the wrong person. One of these comes with a controlled environment and a school nurse on standby.

I considered Flickr as a place for my photography portfolio, but I can't recommend it to anyone. Try sharing a portfolio link with someone who doesn't have an account there. It'll open with these nasty pop-ups, even if you have the paid version.

So I looked for a good alternative and found the paid https://glass.photo/ -- almost no one uses it, the service probably won't survive the next 5-10 years, but at least the UI/UX is done with some thought

Wait, people still download unsigned exes from PHP-era websites in 2026? And then act surprised when the download link starts pointing to malware?

At this point if your software isn't distributed through a repo with verifiable builds, you're basically running a malware lottery for your users. The only question is when, not if.

CPUID got lucky it was only 6 hours. Imagine if the attackers had better taste in filenames than "HWiNFO_Monitor_Setup.exe" lmao
