Good idea, especially when times as serious as this.
Folks, when there is major unrest/wars going on, it's a great time to really think outside the box. You will need the most determined mindset possible. Be prepared to violate all communication regulations (or perish where you stand, potentially).
This reminds me of the war in Syria where the government would shut down communications, leaving civilians and militants to find alternatives means. Most of the p2p used wifi.
I never install programs ("apps") on a primary device that I use for personal comms. Even with all the sandboxing and jails, the privacy risks are astronomical. And like you said, an "app" only benefits the greedy corp, not us.
This software was absolutely hated by the students. Not only is it difficult to use for some who have trouble with technology, but it would often score a persons paper with wildly inaccurate remarks to the point that the instructor accused the person of cheating. It made many students cry.
Edit: I'm not sure why my comments are coming up as "dead" but only when logged out. Seems like I am shadowbannned, for some odd reason. Might have to make a new account?
During uncertain times like this we need to be asking the hard questions. Always use protection like a VPN and iptable when connecting to unknown/untrusted networks.
The majority of us are well aware how these devices create a MITM attack against your phone, but is there anything you found particularly interesting or egregious that we should know about? Especially how LE are using them to abuse every group who desperately needs protection from these devices.
