Is that really enough to avoid being sued for defamation?

Exactly. Did the Wuhan doctors sounding the alarm about a new virus, without “evidence” have freedom of speech?

The CCP tried to suppress them for “inciting a panic” until it became obvious they couldn’t cover it up any longer

Exactly.

The state doesn’t need to directly destroy you financially like they do in China.

They just have a legal framework that allows lawyers to do it for them.

And we think we have so much more freedom in the west.

Two main points:

A) is it true?

B) did it cause damages?

A) after the amount of mind boggling conspiracies by the CIA NSA etc that were proven to be true, are we really going to make conspiracy theories illegal? (In this case I don’t think it’s true, but conspiracies do exist)

B) how can you be held accountable for the actions of a mob? If I go crazy over your hacker news comment, should you be liable for inciting me?

Why does making money change the legality of what he was saying?

Yes, I think people should be able to tweet things like “masks do/don’t” work without being able to be sued.

It’s the same thing with covid. It was made illegal to question it

Would it be ok if he wasn’t profiting from it?
