This is even worse than spying on people because it makes industrial espionage really easy. This is reason to ban US internet companies outside US. US goverment do everything to split internet into local parts.
Without the "old user base" (old indeed, I've been a fanboy for 10 years), Opera is nothing.
They will not get the Chrome userbase. They don't have ressources to fetch a large audience. Opera is a browser for geek and should have stay so.
Maybe they're not surprised because there was already a "bug" with Opera 12.15.
Google is the default search engine and if your change that it comes back everytime you re-start Opera.
I always had the feeling that Microsoft is made up of two types of developers:
1) noobs like those who created the MetroUI and have absolutely no knowledge of the Windows history - they always introduce new and pointless features, and they also usually undo the work of the other type of developer:
2) geniues (this is not a pun), like those who improved Windows performance so much starting with Windows XP and who know both the history and the users of Windows inside-out
The problem with AAVE is that as much as some academics try to imprint it with French grammar history or specific qualities of a major language, it is too easily corrupted with non-standard pidgin fads even within its everyday usage. A lot of it is emotive slang that can mean a myriad of things without supporting context clues in regular English. Specific pronouns often refer to unconventional nouns so that it becomes an inside joke. Haphazardly juxtaposing SOV/SVO word order and verbing nouns does not a ginuwine phat language roll.
Honestly, it's closer to an alternate form of English poetry than a separate language.
I'm in the middle of raising a large seed round for my startup. We were ramping up the product like crazy and my co-founder left the day the term sheets were coming in.
I somehow managed to turn it around and not lose interest from the investors, but fund raising has been taking all my time. The product is suffering BIG TIME because he left. I'm completely overwhelmed with user tickets, fixing the site and due diligence. I work over 100 hours/weekm literally. I don't know how I'll get through this as I'm on the verge of burning out, quitting and moving to Africa for 10 years. We haven't even started and I'm already a mess. Even if we raise that dough, hiring is so hard that I don't see the end to this.
I just went to the liquor store and bought myself a 40 of Southern Comfort. It's been helping.
Back to working and drinking.

There is the hckrnews [1] browser extension that does exactly this for news.ycombinator.com. I believe the reddit enhancement suite also does this, but I've only heard about it since I don't use it. I do know, however, that reddit gold members get this functionality via the more-inefficient server-side magic. The coolest thing about the reddit gold implementation is that it allows you to select highlighting of comments from different times of past views so if you happened to visit but not read the new comments they're not wiped out on you.
About the original topic of conversion, discourse, I think I really need to see the site without all the cruft before deciding much about it. As it is, it's far too busy for me. I really hate this trend of "modern" web development, but the developers have stated that it should be themeable by those who deploy it.
Funny thing is, a couple ideas I've had myself about possible features of discussion forms appear to be present there but I dislike them already. Prime among this is the ability to spawn off a discussion thread from a main post to its own subpost. I always though that subthreads tend to get derailed to the point of needing to be a separate discussion. I think that what really matters is how the surrounding communities use such features. It being a playpen that is wiped every day, with users coming in to test features over and over might be painting my experience a bit.
