I've always been conflicted about the DFW speech as a wonderful tool to think about how to live from a man who seemed to have led a pretty troubled life. I keep coming back to the speech for its content, but can't help but think of the man who gave it when I do.
Yeah I totally agree with this! The crux of the speech for me is "To invent your own life's meaning is not easy, but it's still allowed, and I think you'll be happier for the trouble."
A perspective on population growth that I haven’t seen before. It’s very long, so the tl;dr as I understand it is:
- Humanity has always survived through technological progress to support an increased number of people. Technology changes the carrying capacity of an environment.
- Whether or not we’ll be able to do this forever is unknown.
The underlying article itself has a lot more history and nuggets of information beyond this summary!
I prefilled the answer for week 1 was to help people understand the boilerplate needed better, but maybe that was giving too much away. I'll try putting something more minimal in.
Unfortunately you can't use the buttons inside the iframe because of CORS issues. Not sure if there's any easy workaround for that :(
