Funny, I write terminal codes directly, because where I learned to program (PC DOS), there was no terminfo, only ANSI.SYS. I don't ever plan to port anything to DOS ever again, but old habits do die hard.

Pulseaudio doesn't crash any more, true. But it still uses gobs of cpu to play audio and has other idiosyncracies that I have no idea how to work around. For example, I have no volume control in the GUI for the headphone port on the front of my computer, but I can control it just fine using alsamixer. After hours of trying various suggestions I've just decided to control my volume from the terminal and move on with my life.

I would not want to make a trip to the dump in a Panda; for that I would want a trailer.

Front-wheel driver cars in the United States are generally not rated for towing, and can void your warranty. (It's silly, because as I understand it, the exact same car in Europe usually is rated for towing).

Minivans are the exception; they are rated for towing more than some compact pickups. Unfortunately, seat design means that many minivans no longer meet one of the original design criteria of the first minivan: the ability to carry a 4x8 sheet of plywood.
