"BigBrand gets it from the same supplier"

I don't think commerce (especially at Amazon) works the way you think it does.

There is a very good chance that when you buy something at Amazon that says it's BigBrand ... it's just a knockoff. Or a fake that has infiltrated another part of Amazon's supply chain. There is big money in lying to customers through Amazon.

light/moderate weight lifting is not "low-intensity active control condition" then?

Amazon could easily solve this problem if they wanted to. They just don't want to.

Why hasn't HackerNews changed the color of the top bar? I thought they did that to honor folks in the tech industry that died.

Software consulting has been around for a very long time. Decades.

It has always been overpriced and had huge margins.

I think what management consultants are really afraid of is being replaced. By AI.

First, this is true - learning or doing anything does change your brain. This article isn't talking about just that.

I personally don't think it's meant to scare-monger, either - although I'm sure opinions may differ on the subject.

What is unique about being a dad is having a living breathing creature depend on you. There are hormones exchanged. AND you're learning and doing something. AND you're remembering (and having to deal with) your own childhood memories. And realizing that in your memories, you were the kid ... now you're the adult. It's different.

Literally laughing out loud to this.

I can relate.

And yet the hardware cost increases caused by AI are not.

Feels like maybe you're just noticing this because it defaults to Chinese. Is that true?

How many sites do this but you don't notice because they default to English?

Feels like the word 'sale' may actually turn into a loophole. It should have probably been worded to use 'exchange' or 'transfer' instead. But this is progress.

The Top Gear enthusiast in me loves that you included Koenigsegg in this conversation.

But including a company that hand-builds a handful of hypercars annually in a conversation about the auto industry in Sweden is not the flex you think it is.

"We call this confirmation bias".

I'm genuinely curious to know what you think the author's pre-existing beliefs are.

You seem to have a few of your own: "Canada only has to patrol its northern border"

I mean, I would argue that's why rent control exists in the first place: Because there is a market with astronomical increases in rent (not the other way around, like you are suggesting)

Absolutely.

Other things that change the math:

- Only allowing individuals to rent living spaces (no corporations)

- Only allowing individuals to buy houses (no corporations)

- Not allowing corporations to buy influence in Washington DC

Anything that puts the focus back on what's the ethically and morally right thing to do for humans changes the math.

And don't get me wrong: I'm a capitalist. But for some reason, some capitalists really get upset with this kind of language.

I wonder why?

"people with careers don’t really need to hedge inflation especially"

This is like saying, "you don't need to hedge inflation as long as everything goes right"

You don't need to hedge inflation ... until you do.

Buying a home is a hedge against inflation.

Renting has no similar protections. Your choices are, "Pay the (increased) rent" or "Move"

"Why are we so afraid to let kids explore"?

Pedophiles.

They were always there, even inside of families and churches. Just underreported.

They did:

"We take full responsibility for the architectural decisions that allowed a single upstream provider action to cascade into a platform-wide outage, and detail below what happened, how we recovered, and the changes we are making to prevent this from happening again."

My guess is they will be switching away from Google Cloud. Because anything else would be nuts.

It's literally changing your brain when you don't use it like you used to. So, yeah. It is.
