Yep. You can probably go higher than this today - $25 million these days seems to be too small for the VCs.

... or worse biological weapons. If we don't want very smart people working on things like this then total moral condemnation is the way to go.

Curious to know what the landlords think of Wework’s prospects. Does he think they are going to blow up soon?

I would say those landlords are going to be in for an even bigger shock.

Investor subsidised rent.

Oh you mean for the investors? Well money is dirty so it is best if you have less of it.

Not exactly encouraging given the failure rate of banks before deposit insurance.

Has this model ever worked for long? I wonder how many of these business models are going to survive the next recession.

While agricultural use is a problem, we have resistance problems even with classes of antibiotics that are never used in agriculture. The problem with antibiotic resistance is economic, not scientific. There is no incentive to develop new antibiotics (or tweaks of existing antibiotics that overcome resistance) under our current regulatory system.

I own a thermo-corrected quartz watch and I can't measure the drift on it. Between the twice yearly changes due to daylight saving time the drift is less than a second. I continue to be amazed that I can have something this accurate strapped to my wrist.

I don't think your comment is very constructive, but more importantly what the OP actually said is not wrong.

Well I don’t think any company has to take any money, but I agree that it might not be a decision the founders have any control over (board level decision).

I know SV is the center of the current tech boom, but one of the things this time around is the startup economy is much larger and more wide spread. There seems to be many more startups outside of the traditional centers which is good.

While I agree with you that things are different this time, I still suspect that there is a fair bit of growth acceleration coming from startup dollars being recycled back through the startup economy.

mmm - insiders trying to get out is never a good sign.

This is assuming that there is no such thing as market saturation or diminishing returns :)

The most interesting thing about all these massive fund raisings is why. It is almost as if the managers of these companies think we are about to enter a period where raising funds will be impossible, revenue from servicing the startup economy will dry up, and they will need a massive war chest to survive.

By a couple of minutes I meant ~60 seconds a side - basically just leave it on long enough to get the level of Maillard browning my guests like. This is one of those things that helps to have all the guests crowd around while you do this as they can then tell you when to take it off the grill. Yum!

I have used this method before and it works great. It is really useful for large parties where you are not sure when everyone will want to eat. Just throw everything in the cooler (heater I guess) and when everyone says let's eat throw everything on the bbq for a couple of minutes to sear.
