The web experience of the 90s and early 2000s is dead. The web has gotten shittier too.

I was going to type up some long rant, but why? This is a good example of why the web is dead. Fuck you author.

I welcome my fucking ban.

Well as a former chess champion, he must have seen this coming. Looking forward to seeing his next move.

I don't think I'd pass the personality test to get hired onto a job that tracked my time in the washroom.

Sure hope that those who are tracked that way unionize soon.

At first I LOL WTF, but then I remembered how far down the societal ladder goes. Some schools have a constant problem with vandalism. Knowing which kids are in the halls at what time will help narrow down which shithead ripped the sink off the wall.

Do business with business that have local offices. That way anytime something needs verification or seems off, go into the businesses building.

I just make a new words. Such as "dojober".

Dojober (noun): A handcrafted thing that makes it possible to do a job (i.e., complete a task).

Synonyms: widget, contraption

An easy fix for that would be to put a surge protector between the UPSs. (Joke)

------------

I bought three UPSs, all them used independently; but I had to stop using all of them. They all had a capacitor whine that was driving me crazy.

Be cool if alcoholics could get this level of sympathy from society.

Drink too much: it's a personal failing.

Eat too much: weight management is extremely challenging due to interactions between our biology, behavior, and the obesogenic environment.

A lot of millennials and gen Z's are choosing to not have kids. No real reason for those without kids to give a fuck, and those with kids have a larger carbon footprint than those without children.

It's electric SIR, how would forced induction help?

Lol

Send them to an auto parts store and have them ask for a supercharger for their Tesla just to confuse the clerk.

Obligatory: I wouldn't actually do this but it's amusing to think about.

Wow. I did not know that.

It's likely 90% of the population don't follow this tax law.

Due to the anti-consumer behavior of all mega-corps, presume the worst.

If a person chooses not to connect TV to the internet, how can I know with 100% certainty that data extraction is not occuring over Bluetooth?

Samsung could have a contract with Amazon where Samsung puts Bluetooth readers in all Amazon delivery vehicles to aid in this data retrieval.

It's not that far fetched since Google has mappings of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signal locations.

A TV manufacturer puts in the back door so the pair screen doesn't appear under certain circumstances.

I don't know and I don't have the time to research what the operating system on a TV can all do.

All it does is make another hole in the Swiss cheese model. I don't need a smart TV being the reason why an important account got compromised.

The smart features.

On the CU7000D I pulled three wires and I was able to turn off Bluetooth on the fucking thing.

For those about to make the recommendation, I could not make the edit in the factory menu. I use the remote controller code, but Samsung neutered their factory menu options unless the person has full-fledged factory remote.

Sounded like BS so I looked it up.

"Figure 1d and Supplemental Table S2 show the complete protection times (CPTs) measured using the EPA procedure (tick on-arm assay) for different formulations. The organic lotion base provided no protection from tick crossings. The 10% lotion formulations that provided the longest protection from tick crossings were cinnamon oil, clove oil, 2PEP, and geraniol with CPTs longer than one hour. The formulation with 10% thyme oil displayed a CPT of 55 min, while the rest of the formulations tested did not provide CPTs significantly different from the untreated and unscented lotion controls. Our positive control, 10% DEET in unscented lotion, provided protection for up to six hours, at which time we stopped the experiment."

It is the scalability. A motivated well-funded bad actor could reek total havoc.

When I was younger I watched too much sci-fi and Star Trek. I was always prospace exploration. Now that I'm older, my views have changed. We need to be focusing on infrastructure and the meat bags that inhabit this dirt ball. But NASA makes a bunch of cool stuff that eventually gets used everywhere in everyone's daily lives, so I have no objections to letting them work. Just don't be surprised if people don't care about your moon rock haulers.

There's a big difference between reading and understanding. Looks like this person is doing this so they can burn through a whole bunch of books within time frame. Which is fine for a hobby, but while working I don't see the value. Slowing down and reading a coworker's hastily put together email and attempting to interpret their message is where I find value. Speed reading in those situations would probably result in negative outcomes.

I did some casual searching on disabling Toyota Dealer Communications System (DCS). The results of that search was not informative.

I highly doubt that just pulling that fuse will disable Toyota's tracking. I'd suspect their tracking is tied into either the infotainment system, OBD, or the PCM. So when you go to the dealer they notice it not working, they put in a fuse, pull your stored data, and remove the fuse again.

With every company being anti-consumer, presume the worst until otherwise proven.

Also pulling that fuse would likely void a warranty.

Post script: It's fun driving a 20+ year old car with a V8. Modern naturally aspirated I4 don't stand a chance. And I'm typically neck to neck with turboed I4 and naturally aspirated V6. People in their shiny new cars losing to a 20 plus year old rust bucket is amusing to me.

I have money to buy a new car, but I won't. Back in my day this was called spyware.

"Toyota says they can collect a whole heap of personal information on you through your car, the Toyota app, and their connected services. This includes everything from personally identifying information such as name, address, phone number, email, online identifier, social media ID, and demographic information such as your age, to driving behavior such as acceleration and speed, steering, and breaking functionality, and travel direction, to lots of information about your car including VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), interior and exterior image data from cameras and sensors in your car, facial geometric features. They even can collect sensitive personal information such as precise geolocation data, biometric information. On top of all this, they say they can collect lots of information about you from other sources such as social media, public sources, data brokers, data providers, your friends, and more. Toyota is collecting a whole lot of information on you. Oh, and if you use any of those mobile services like SiriusXM radio, wi-fi connectivity, navigation, or even let your insurance track your usage, well, those places can all collect your personal information too."

...

"In May, 2023 Toyota admitted that it had left the location data of over 2 million Toyota and Lexus users exposed and unsecured for ten years. A couple weeks later, Toyota again admitted it left the data of another 260,000 car owners exposed in a different security incident. "
