From what I've been able to research on the good faith exception, it's not in the Constitution but the Supreme Court first outlined this exception in the landmark 1984 case United States v. Leon .

There is a difference between one or even twenty pictures being taken of you, and hundreds or thousands of pictures. One is "public privacy" and the other is "dragnet stalking".

An individual setting up a network of 200-400 cameras throughout a city would not be lega because of property usage I would assume. Not necessarily because of the recording. A llone person doing this would definitely raise more eyebrows.

How many people here are YC people? Using Google doesn't make you a Google employee.

Looks like these safeguards are in place:

* System and root directories cannot be selected. * Can only being activated after user action. * Requires https. * Double-confirmation for write access.

No API like this could ever be bulletproof, but it's a start I guess.

Very cool API though, and it really does open up a whole new world of possibilities.

First time I've heard about this. I'll have to look into the security model around it. I'm curious what safeguards are in place to prevent click jacking. I know showing a file picker """should""" be enough of a warning to users to be careful, but it's not hard to imagine a world where a couple of fish accidentally bite the bait of an allow-button, or because they followed instructions they incorrectly trusted.

> You open a connection, send SQL over TCP (a protocol to send data over a network),

Thanks for the clarification, LLM!!

I read this 3 times to try to figure out why you were living in the library for 10 years. It sparked Roofman vibes.

The license change is more than just concerning. This isn't the first time it happens, and won't be the last, without legal action.

Ah what a great little tutorial. Thanks for sharing that one.

It looks like rust async creates state machines similar to how Kotlin does it with so-called Continuations.

> I want to say upfront - we've never pursued these invoices

So those people who would feel guilty not paying are punished and those who prefer to try to cheat the system by skipping payment on invoices are systematically rewarded?

Wow, some of these (probably all) are ridiculous. And trying them on different compilers just adds to the fun.

Love the tonuge in cheek writing here.

This is pretty much exactly my gripes, too. Data centers are necessary, but why are we doing this all the wrong way?

The new Utah data center is building new gas pipelines to generate 9GW instead of requiring ANY percentage of green energy, while also giving massive tax breaks that the families living nearby and statewide will have to cover.

For actionable information on this specific project, see:

Beautiful. Twenty seconds per token is funny, but the only direction is up from here!

The title may be misleading. They are pausing giving out new tax breaks, not suspending previously granted breaks.

How is this a dupe? It's new information, and my take is that it's one of the least biased articles about the topic.

This echoes some of my biggest gripes about data centers:

We should be mandating green power, to a great extent, be built to support these facilities.

We (US states) should not be competing, in a race to the bottom, to be the state to give the biggest tax breaks and pass the cost to the citizens.

We should not be ignoring the citizens who will have their health and livelihoods affected.

AI data centers, for better or worse, are very necessary for many reasons. They could be built responsibly, or at least less hazardously, but the care isn't being put into that aspect of their construction.
