Most of these were invented because of the threat of war not the war itself. The best example is the Space Race between the US and USSR. There was no war, however the threat of the nuclear war pushed the technology forward tremendously.
Threat of war is better than war as it doesn't destroy your population and economic base.
The author's point was that you don't need many years of experience or talent to do the "art" he presented in his piece. Just about anyone can "produce" "art" like this. That was his whole point. To claim you need years of context to understand 50 year old woman throwing cash on her vagina is stupid.
So when the public regulates the Internet via their elected officials it is bad (a.k.a "socialism"). But when private corporations regulate to merely secure their monopolistic position, that's "no kidding" ?
With history of 2008 bank bail-outs you should have known better.
The problem with Government numbers is that they are cooked. Example: The Government numbers will tell you that deflation is a threat. Can you remember a single year in the past decade when your health insurance, gas, food or other neccessities went down in price? No way! They always go up! What the Government does is cooking the CPI (inflation) number by mixing neccessities with gadgets and telling you that you're better off with 100% more expensive healthcare for the past decade because TV sets are 50% cheaper. That's not true economics. That's why start-ups like this:

make a killing. Because no serious investor trusts Government numbers.
Another great example: Did you know that if we counted unemployment rate as we did during Reagan years it would be closer to 20% now? And what is the official number they just reported? 8.2% ? That's wishful thinking and fantasy land, not the unemployment number. They change the way they calculate data hoping people will trust it more than their own eyes.
The truth is we have been getting poorer every year for decades now.

A few days ago there was this post #1 on YC News about a guys whose kid had this super-rare genetic disorder. Now, what, this guy should only listen to the Doctors and forget about turning on his own brain?
I think that a good lawyer will listen to his Client and appreciate the Client who is interested enough in his case to propose solutions based on this readings/understanding of the Law. Or even discuss the stuff he saw here.
Why on Earth everybody such a pain about legal advise and when it comes to much more important thing in life - health, life threatning disease - nobody's complaining when questions are asked and resolutions proposed.
